Brake Job: $20,000

On one of the other forums the cost of a brake job on the SLR was stated to be $20,000 per the flat rate manual. Can anyone confirm this?

I have no idea, but have read that the SLR ceramic rotors are pretty expensive! I don't know what the pads are made of, sorry

I don't think so - don't know for a fact at this point in time - but if it is now 20K then the cost has gone down.

Brake Repair Cost

I remember hearing that number at the AMG Challenge in May.
It was one of the questions that was asked.
Rob Allan AMG Product Manager.
Pads and Rotors with Labor. $ 11K US.

That's about right. If you're an SLR owner on a budget, you can substitute R230 parts and save about $15k but you'll loose a lot of braking performance.

If you do-it-yourself, you can even save another couple of thousand more too!

If you're an SLR owner on a budget...you probably shouldn't be an SLR owner...

LOL!! You're so right!! You should easily pay the $20K or $11K and also pick up something at the gift shop too!

I would think that it would be cheaper to complain about braking squeal.

A199 420 04 72 BRAKE DISC $6063 Euro each x 2

The cost seems to be in the rotors not the pads or the labour.

There are also 19" brakes which are even more expensive.

Approximately $12,000 for the front rotors, $2000 for the pads, + whatever the labor is (I think it's around 5 hours). That's just for the fronts.

Not sure about the rears but I'm sure they're only slightly cheaper. You're probably looking at around $30-40,000 for pads & rotors all the way around.

My understanding is that cost is around $30K USD -- but I don't know anyone who has had to have the whole shebang done yet - don't know if anyone will ever have to have all four rotors and pads) done at one time....

For $20k they'd better be made of Bald Eagle beaks or something.

Yeah, they are carbon ceramic discs made by brembo exclusively for the SLR...

Be happy - a brake change for the Enzo is $25K per axle.

And you guys thought the brembo kits we sell were expensive

Doesn't it cost something crazy like $10K to change/remove the tire of the Enzo, because they use a special screw/bolt.

Possibly...a first year service is a little over 20 hours of labor.

You get more than an oil change though.

While I was having my SLK 350 serviced today, I was looking at a customer's SLR in the dealer's shop area. The service writer told me that the car was getting new brakes installed. He said that the entire job including new rotors
($10,000 each) will cost the owner around $43,000. I'm glad I have an SLK.
