SLR vs. Veyron

not sure if this is old vid, found it on 6speedonline. SLR vs. Veyron. not sure if they are comparing apples to apples. Veyron just has too many ponies at the wheel.

I know, very impressive, I didn't like it at first, but you can't help not to like it. It does/has everything. I heard that they lost their socks on the project like it costs 5 million to make each one, but they wanted to make a statement... like I said I heard it in rumorville.

I'll find you the vid on youtube, but its a Veyron v.s. a Hennessey Venom 1000 Viper and the Viper won but a good distance...

EDIT: Here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsdvmcfLmBY

Goes to show that if you have money, anything is possible...

that's what i mean, you can twin turbo anything these days and make it go fast, the hennessey vipers have been around for a while now but don't get me wrong i love the henn viper but please, get rid of the stock interior and gauges and she would be gorgeous. what does it cost to twin turbo these days

I don't know if you knew but the Veyron has 4 turbos, not just 2

In this month issue of R&T, they have a 0-200mph shootout between 1100hp viper, 900hp vette, murcielago, 700hp ruf rt12, SLR, and veyron. Murcielago and SLR couldn't reach 200mph. Viper won, Veyron was 2nd, vette was 3rd. Veyron was about 4 seconds slower to 200mph than viper but beat the viper in 0-100, 1/4 mile and to 1 mile. Viper caught up to veyron at aprox. 120mph.

Here are 0-1 mile for all cars:
Veyron: 25.9 @ 204.4mph
Viper: 26.0 @ 220mph
Vette: 27.8 @ 203mph
Ruf: 28.1 @ 181.2mph
SLR: 28.4 @ 181mph
Murcielago: 30.3 @ 171mph

And here are 0-200mph for all cars:
Viper: 20.3 sec
Veyron: 24.2 sec
Vette: 26.5 sec
Ruf: 35.5 sec
SLR: 47.2 sec (did not reach 200mph, but got to 199 in 47.2)

Basically the only thing that can hang with Veyron is a 1,100hp twin-turbo viper. However, according to test drivers, it "wanted to go sideways in every car" and was extremely hard to drive, unstable, loud, etc. Veyron, on the other hand, was extremely easy to drive, confidence-inspring, stable, etc and not that much slower. Viper will also not reach 253mph for aerodynamic reasons. Regarding the veyron, they said you could take your hands of the steering wheel at 200mph and it would keep going straight.

As far as the SLR goes, its in a totally different category and didn't even reach 200mph.

yep i agree with you all, the veyron is an all around better auto than the viper, just not in the exterior looks(ihmo) and as far as the HP goes. i just don't see my self running that fast on a daily basis and as far as bragging rights and who wins the pissing contest, well i rather take second and own a ENZO and a SLR for the same price as a veyron.

Vipe did not catch the Veyron at 120mph. It didnt catch the Veyron till after 1mile, at which both were traveling over 200mph.

The SLR also did great running the 1/4 mile at 11.6@128mph, beating the RUF RT12 in mph, but tieing in ET.

Yes, my mistake sorry. I meant to say that Viper caught up to Veyron at 1 mile, when veyron was going around 204mph. So pretty much in any real world scenario, veyron would take the viper or any car period.

Also, you guys have to keep in mind that Veyron is capable of much more than 1001hp, it is detuned from factory much like SL600/65 for driveability, emissions, and long-term reliability reasons. I think that with a simple ecu/exhaust mods, we'd be looking at 1200hp and 260mph+ top speed.

straight lines aside, they are exactly the same around the track

7:40 --- 161.217 km/h – Bugatti 16/4 Veyron, 1001 PS/1980 kg (Wheels magazine Australia, 12/05)
7:40 --- 161.217 km/h -- Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren, Klaus Ludwig (AutoBild 07/04)

I hear crickets after that post...

plus that viper video vs the veyron... seems like the Hennessey isn't as ergonomic nor refined like the veyron.

The Veyron does have 4 turbos... craziness. I also believe the complete gas tank will be used in 12 minutes of holding top speed. Not to mention the tires can not handle that speed for long as well. Looks heavy and doesn't look like it would handle well on a track.

There's a vid of the Veyron on youtube doing a top speed run on the VW top secret track. It's amazing how fast that car is. It is a beast!!!
