SLS/R197/C197 AMG: SLS AMG L.A. Auto Show Preview!
Here are some pictures of the SLS as it was revealed tonight at the Preview of the 2009 L.A. Auto Show. Thanks to the good folks at AMG for the invite and hosting the event.
I saw some Mbworld members there as well
ENJOY!

Thanks & apologies for the iPhone quality pics but I'll post some Hi-Res shots soon!
Mario mentioned that AMG bought 10 Vipers to disguise the SLS drive train in testing and that Bernd Schneider lived at the Ring for testing.
Oh, the SLS looks even better in person.
Got to sit in it as well, but when I got out, banged the top of my head on the bottom of the gull-wing door. D'oh
(Prospective buyers, heads up! Literally.)Some pics:

The car looks pretty good and is priced to sell...however it's lumbered with the 6.2 which is in so many applications the "specialness" is gone...

There were a couple of hundred people that got to sit in the car last night.
I really wish they had taken more styling cues from the original with the rear end, however. I mean, how beautiful was this???

@Riot Nrrrd: You were not the only one who bumped their head on the way out. A gentleman who sat in the SLS before me hit his head pretty hard while exiting lol.

Knocked some sense into me! I still don't know how I did that. The baseball cap blocked my view. That's my story, anyway!
And likening the SLS 63 motor to 63 motors used in other platforms is simply ignorant. There are over 120 new parts, including internals....not to mention a true dry sump lubrication system. I'd say that makes it pretty special.
Reports say it's the best drivers car MB have ever made and the list price is much more sensible than the 65-series cars. Gullwing doors mean it's not for those who wish to fly under the radar, in fact styling as whole will ensure a lot of initial attention which will be a good thing for some and a bad thing for others.
I guess you would get used to it if you owned it...
That or wear a helmet all the time
Wish I'd met some of you, I was there with some Private Loungers who got me my pass...
