My E-55 Rim got scraped against curb

I am really pretty embarassed about backing my car up and scraping one of my rear rims against a curb. It really should be replaced with a new one.

I checked the Tire Rack website and one rim is $349 plus tax and shipping. Some of you have replaced your monoblocks with some pretty hot looking rims, and if anyone might want to offer one, or perhaps two of your unused AMG wheels for a reasonable price, please let me know. I need a 18" rear AMG momoblock.

Thanks very much James, I checked out their website. I can call him tomorrow.

I really like how your project has come along. Sometime in the future, I guess I will swap out the springs (shocks too?). Had you had a chance to compare the Kleeman setup to the H & R? I suppose the price difference is significant, no?

Also, sorry for my ignorance, but why go with the 19 inch wheels? (BTW, nice choice!)

First thanks for the compliments mac2001!! And your welcome! Yes call Peter today and he can probably set you up with the new rims and tires.

As far my project thanks really glad it came out pretty well myself. I've had the stock shocks for sometime and normally when i do hard cornering the feel was just too soft for me. After switching to Kleemann these just flat out feel much more solid and awsome! I didn't have a chance to compare this with the Bilstein and H&R setup but i can tell you that once you switch to these suspension you'll never go back and you won't be sorry. Just amazing. And there is a huge price difference but the way i look at it is you only want the best for your beast and nothing less!

I choose 19"s not only for the look but it just makes the car more alive imo. Hope this helps.

Let me know if you have anymore questions.

I also will be upgrading to the Kleemann suspension based solely on the complete confidence and unwavering recommendation of JamE55. I hate the 'Pepto-Bismal' colored spings. Jam, tell Kleemann to give you a commission.

I want 19 inch wheels however, pot holes in this city will have them Killed In Action (KIA).

KEV

Glad you're upgrading to Kleemann. All this hype talk of mine is nothing really compared to experiencing it. Why do you think i got sold on this?! It's because i rode one of the members here (CLK69) car whos got the suspension and just loved it from the get go! You definitely won't be sorry KEV! As far as the color don't really worry about it as it's hidden underneath the car and cannot be noticed til someone actually looks underneath.

Now where's my commision! j/k. As far as the wheels go don't go for 19"s if the road will kill it 18"s would be ok too!

That's the one thing about Kleemann that turns me off, they've got to change their theme color. It's not so bad on the springs cause you can't see em that well, but they use it on everything else too (engine covers, seats, door sills etc.). Can't deny that the performance is awesome. The E55K is the worlds fastest sedan at 338km/h.

My E-55 Rim got scraped against curb
Mac2001. Don't waste your money on a new rim. Just get the old one refinnished. I have had my rims scraped, both by myself and other drivers. Three so far, over the last couple of years. It costs around $100 Australian ie $55US for this to be done, which includes machining, recoating, balancing and remounting the tyre. Dealers do this all the time, why do you think the rims on 2nd hand cars always look so good?

S*** happens ...

My CLK55 now has 24,400 miles on it and some curb rash is a fact of life no matter how careful one is. Usually the front wheels get it worst, because they get turned during parking.

Definitely get a good wheel repair shop to look before assuming you have to replace. When I got new tires at 19,800 miles the tire shop damaged my rears and I learned what can be fixed (mine had minor damage compared to what else I saw in for repair).

i've used these guys repeatedly in the past. they can turn your wheels around by the middle of the week sometimes. and if they find your wheel too warped to repair they pay for the return shipping.

I think I'll try wheelcollision. It's not that bad. Probably restorable.

Thanks to everyone else!

Did you do the repair? Do you have before and after pics?

I'll confess I scratched my right front just a little against a curb, sigh.
