But man I LOVE the new S55. The interior looks to have been updated with proper AMG sports seats and amg/v8 kompressor logo's in the dash pod. And, it's now just a tick behind the E55 at 4.8 secs for 0-100km/hr.

The interior leather combinations are:
anthracite/anthracite
anthracite/dark blue
anthracite/merlot ( dark reddy brown)
You can see them on www.mercedes-benz.de in the Pkw E classe Konfigurator

Any feel for why MB will be selling the new AmG model in Europe as a 2003 but will be skipping the model year for the same car in the states. If the car is available why not offer it here as well? Could it be a production issue? Also now that the car is officially out in Europe has anyone seen the new prices and how they compare to the W210 AmG prices?

The European prices are at aroud $75,000 euro dollars, but it appears this price is without any extra options that were included in the past on U.S. models. Add $5000-10,000 for comparable options.

From the pricelist on Mercedes Germany for W211 E55 the moonroof (code 414) is 1,010 euro which is $993 usd. So in Europe the price of the W211 E55 with moonroof is:
75,500 base plus 1,010 totals 76,510 euro which is $75,225 usd

E55 US MSRP
I think we still need to wait & see what the US MSRP will be. I'll be very happy if it is around $75K, but I won't be surprised if it's much more. Bottom line take home price after taxes in Europe looks to be around $85K US. According to the Preisfinder (Price Finder) at the German Mercedes website.

FWIW, the MB Deutschland site lists the price of the '03 CLK55AMG as 77,256 Euros, while the '02 CLK55 in the US was (is still) listed at $67,151.
My German is very limited so I can't interpret details about what's included in the '03 pricelist, but if people here are assuming that a Euro price for the new E55 (>85,000) is going to be very similar to the USD price, the CLK comparison would suggest otherwise.
Who would pay almost $77,000 USD for a CLK55 coupe (not the cab)? MB USA would not attempt to price the CLK55 in that range.
I'm still betting the E55 comes in around $76,500 without options.

Guys
Look at this logically, all other countries pricing whose pricing is released show an increase on the outgoing model of around 15%.
MB is keeping pricing of the new E very similar to old, however, E55 now has EBC, Air suspension and supercharger. You would have to factor in 10K for the supercharger install alone.
The new E55 is a significant improvement on the outgoing model and as such is going to be significantly more expensive. The USA does not buy so many E55's annualy that MB is going to make special (read lose money) pricing to make you guys happy.
Be prepared for pricing of 80K plus, just under the price of the S500 and be pleasantly surpised if it comes in better, rather than disappointed.
The upside is, the option list for the E55 is very limited as virtually everything is standard equipment.
The Euro pricing you are comparing with shows the E55 to be 10% more expensive than the S500 (69,200 euro), which comparatively would price the car at $88,000 in the USA.
