Anyone crack their motor mounts?
I just got a message from my dealer, cracked motor mounts!?!?!?! Anyone else crack their mounts at 40k miles? Oh yeah, he said the way you drive expect them to go in another 40k miles? Now I used to launch my 11sec mustang at 6000rpm, carry the wheels and never cracked a motor mount? Iam lost or is this some type of safety measure built in?

Just curious how do you crack an engine mount? Is this because of when the torque kicks in or gear change or what? Is this a common thing? How does this get prevented from happening or you can't prevent it?? This is interesting.
thanks!

The left mount on my E broke at around 42 k miles, dealer changed both under warranty, I've said this before, but here it goes again, this is what I was explained by the shop foreman:
Engine mounts are the weakest point on your car, they are built light and are supposed to easilly brake on an accident, let the engine fall and not hurt you, because of the way they are built they can brake after a while, but dealers are well aware of the issue and will replace at no cost.
I asked the foreman if driving the car hard will brake them or will expedite the braking process, he said it doesn't, they brake when they brake regardless of your driving habits. At least that's what I was told, I was satisfied with that explanation, if somebody is not satisfied with this explanation I suggest you talk it over with your service advisor.
BTW, how was that for a mature, useful and no smiles post??

That's a great explanation pochs. So i'm kind of worried. Reason is lets say you're at around 40,000 something miles and the engine mount breaks does that mean that your engine will just fall of with no warning or how would you be able to detect this?? This seems like a serious problem.

When you take off a little hard from a stand still you feel a hit (or something hit), then you know something's wrong, if both mounts brake I do belive the engine will fall, but one should hold it pretty good, I drove the car like that for a couple of days and drove it hard (not knowing what was wrong), when the shop foreman saw it was the mount he didn't let me drive the car and fixed it in two hours. So you will for sure feel it and you will have some safe time to get it fixed.

Your engine will not fall out if both mounts break due to their design. Hard driving does effect the life of the mounts as they react to the torque of hard acceleration. When the engine mount breaks on my car it can be noticed by the exhaust system hitting the aluminium shield around the the steering shaft, which it appears to have done again

Both the front left and right engine mounts collapsed. My service advisor said my hard driving probably attributed to it, but hes cool about it, he knows that I regularily take her to the drag strip, and says they will probably go in another 40K miles.

The engine mounts on MBs do not break they leak. The mounts have a type of oil inside. You know they not good when:
1. Vibtration when motor is idling.
2. Knocking of the exhaust on startup.
3. Knocking of the exhaust at a very low speed
4. Oil on the protective cover under the engine.
It is only more of an annoyance based on the above things happening. Aggressive driving does add to how quickly this happens in any car.
