Thinking about selling the s/c
Thinking about selling the super charger set-up. What is a fair price for a used Kleemann s/c? Anyone interested?
reasons for thinking about selling, already busted a piston, transmission is starting to go now, going to law school in the fall.

Jeff, you were supposed to PM me when you were looking to sell it.
Edit: You are the second owner correct? How many miles does it have on the set-up?

Yes, I am the second owner of this set-up. First owner put about 12k miles on it and I've had it on for about 15k miles, therefore it's got about 27 k miles on the set-up give or take.

The transmission control unit will throw a CEL and the tranny will go into limp home mode. Then I get to coast down and restart. Also, shifting between 1-2 has gotten rough at certain throttle positions, particularly more than light throttle inputs. And by rough, I mean it either slams into gear or revs up as if it is slipping.

I replaced the piston, but now the transmission is acting up. I'm going to law schoolon the fall, so i'm thinking about just getting rid of this car and picking up something with fewer problems

GO JEFF!!!
Congrats on your acceptance to Law School. The LSAT ain't no piece of cake. The sacrifices you are making now are admittedly difficult, but you will reap the rewards 10-fold after you graduate and get established. I am in my 10th year of private practice - I hired my wife to be my Office Manager/Paralegal 2 years ago. Despite the economy, we are doing great and couldn't be happier. Post law school, I have owned: a 91 M5; a '92 850; an '01 CLK55; an '02 ML55 and now I drive an '05 E55. (I know, I know, they make medication to control that type of compulsive behavior) Point is, I would still be driving my 95 Corolla had I not taken the leap of faith and enrolled in Law School 13 years ago. (13 years?!? No wonder I feel like sh*t when I get up in the morning!!!)
Congrats Jeff - You will own many a fine car in the days ahead!

I know it will be worth it in the end; but it'll be tough to make all the ends meet. Thanks for the vote of confidence!

Here's an HPS Gen 1 for $3,500, which is not as reputable, but seems pretty solid:

Might be better off selling the whole car. The labor to do the uninstall, re-install, and tuning is probably higher than the cost of the S/C at this point. I thought about putting one on, and while I might not mind paying say $3-$5k for the unit, and could probably do the install myself, I don't want to have to go find a tuner (not many in the southeast) and pay out the wazz to get it tuned (on top of all the hours doing the install).
Did you flush the transmission fluid, btw? That may help. The transmission should be able to handle a ton of torque, and even with the S/C, shouldn't be going bad.

2001: Supercharged E55 AMG
You actually have a point here. The W210 transmission in the E55 should be able to handle the new torque with the S/C'er. Never heard of a problem before actually.

This same transmission in the 65 series holds 738 lbs ft torque. A supercharged E55 goes from 400 lbs ft to, maybe, 500/550 lbs ft torque. I'm sure that the extra torque isn't exactly helping the tranny, but it's still nowhere even close to what other cars put into this tranny. Jeff, what's the mileage on the car, just out of curiosity?
I had similar symptoms on my CLK320: same tranny, well under half the torque. Granted, not as bad as your symptoms. But I did get small surges and hard downshifts and 1 to 2 shifts. I put in new tranny fluid (flushed, then flushed again, since I didn't flush the torque converter) and the problems went away. Hope that might help, as it's a cheap fix.

If you don't like it... go get your TCU re-tuned to smooth, silky, slow shifts.

99 E55 AMG
I had my tranny flushed a few months ago. I have a roughness in my tranny when it upshifts on a downhill... just the way it is. I also have rough and quick shifts when I really get on it... it's an AMG. Not an S-Class. Sure it's the same tranny in different cars... but it's the way the TCU is trained and tuned to behave.
