Ordered a mityvac so I can do my oil changes at home, ordered new all weather floor mats, bilstein b8 sport shocks, #1 spring pads for the front and #2 for the rear, Spring compressor tool and airbag removal tools for the future.
A previous owner had installed H&R lowering springs on the stock #3 pads all around, so it had the reverse rake issue. It also still had the stock bilstein shocks... Replaced the front spring pads with #2 and left the #3 in the rear. It didn't help as much as I wanted.

I ordered the shocks from AJUSA, which was the cheapest I found. The part numbers are labeled as front and rear but they are actually reversed, which I had read somewhere as well.

End Result:

In the process of getting it all installed. Usually I have access to a lift, but this time I decided to do it on the ground. I'm spoiled, I want to use the lift again.
Had to wear my E55 shirt (I make these) for good luck.

The car needs a wash now, and I need to order the Continental DWS 06 front tires to replace the older dunlops that are on there now. The continentals fill the wheel wells nicely and I don't even really need spacers.

Very Nice...Beautiful Car... and thank you for the update...!

My understanding having read most all the old posts I could find on the shocks' issue....e.g....."front PN's in back and back PN's in front" is that it was remedied some time ago.

The part numbers are now correct and the shocks go in their intended position because the valving is different for the front shocks.

See link..: https://mbworld.org/forums/w210-amg/...ggestions.html

I'm still curious about this as I'm getting ready to do the exact same thing...H&R Springs with the B8 Shocks. I have stock #3 pads all the way around and have been stressing about what pad numbers to run as I will be paying a indy to do the work while replacing other front and rear suspension components and I really don't want to have to pay over and over to get the correct set-up.

Did you try installing the shocks as labeled for front and rear?

definitely go with #1 front and #2 rear. It will even it out. So on AJUSA’s site it’s labeled as:
front: BIL-24-062046
rear: BIL-24-062053

but when I went to go install the front shocks, the shock was noticeably shorter than the stock bilstein. So I thought about comparing it to the stock rear shock, and it matched. So the new rear b8 matched the front shock height and the new front b8 matched the rear. First I installed the shorter shock up front because that was what the part number was for... but when I got to the rear it was very clear that it was going to be too tall.

so, I just ended up swapping the front and rear and the height matched and bolted down as it should have. I drove it around the block a little bit to level it out and listen for noises, and I didn’t feel anything abnormal. It is a little frustrating to do the whole job and wonder if it’s not correct. Swapping it is easy but time consuming.

Yup...Those are the exact same part numbers I have sitting in the garage with the H&R springs ready to install...LOL>

I appreciate your info....it's very helpful. Having not actually seen the shocks compared yet definitely puts me at a deficit for correct knowledge but if the front and rear shocks are that much different in length...something must be up.

So to confirm....The B8 Shock labeled as rear was clearly too long? They would not install?

Being that the B8 shocks matching those part numbers are supposed to be shorter in length than the stock shocks as they're for lowered cars it would make sense their shorter all around but if it's that obvious on the rear than maybe the mislabeling is true.

I'll definitely be ordering new #1 Front and #2 Rear pads.

As far as length, the rear and front are definitely reversed when you compare them to the stock shocks, and they are just slightly shorter which is correct. But the rear matches with the front and vice versa. I looked around at some more threads and others said it only rode correctly when switched around.

I noticed the issue in the rear with the longer shock, it just didn’t seem like it was meant to go in there. Even when I pulled the control arm down it wasn’t close.

Awesome...Thank you very much for the info...!

Just to confirm as I forgot to ask...You're using the H&R Spring Set PN #52724 with the writing on the spring coils right side up?

Thanks...!

they are dark blue, the number on one of them is 29724. They were installed when I bought the car.

Dang. Good info on the shocks. I'll have to check the shocks on my car as they were already installed when I bought it...

Nice clear car, looks great and well cared for!

that would be great if you can see what part numbers are in the front and rear. I just drove the car to run errands and no clunking, the ride feels about the same but no more bounce or clunking from the stock shocks.

I might be able to squeeze 5mm spacers under there all said and done, but I want to correct the negative camber as much as I can to save my new tires.

thanks! I love my tectite. It has a pampered life lol

Hmmm...That's interesting. My understanding is PN 29724 is not the correct PN for the E55 W210....it's the spring set for a E320 with a V6.

http://www.hrsprings.com/application...s/25/454/2001/

I do remember reading several posts about people getting those instead of the PN I listed and because of the spring rate differences in the front springs, it caused varied spring pad assortments to get the desired height.

I purchased this spring kit...:

http://www.hrsprings.com/application...s/25/457/2001/

I have a feeling I may be back where I started with trying to determine which front and rear pads to use....

#1 in the front #2 in the rear. I have heard of some people cutting a coil or two off of the H&R springs to fix the reverse rake.

Ok...so still go with the #1 pad in the front and #2 in the rear...?

I don’t want to cut any coils as I believe the H&R springs are progressive rate.

I’ll be running a 245/35-19 front and a 275/30-19 rear.

Yeah, #1 front #2 rear. I wouldn't cut the coils, when you're on a level surface it's pretty even, but when you're on hill or uneven surface it still looks slightly dumped in the rear compared to the front. I'm getting new continentals put on the front today and fixing some rash/polishing the lips too. The continentals run bigger so they should fill the front better than the Dunlops that were on there previously.

Installed a Quaife ATB unit (LSD). Also a new center support bearing and guibos. This was the missing piece the car really needed. Traction controll is much less intrusive, especially in roundabouts. Making licourice is very easy now Next mod... Hm either a aftermarket seat or race kats inplace of the primaries... Maybe I should fix the AC as well now when summer is fast approaching.

why race cats and just not go catless? Usually race cats won’t pass inspection.

maybe splitting hairs but would race cats be considered 200 or less cell? I think those will trigger the light. I passed with 300 high flow in the primaries. I just did mot want to deal with emissions even though Eurocharged shop in hou suggested the same thing.

You should ! This vehicle really needs it. Well I spent quite alot to be honest. I sent my differential over to UK (I'm in EU) to have them install the unit. Got it back a month later. I then reinstalled my self again, horrible job without a lift to be honest... Cost me about 1500$ for the LSD unit and another 900$ for them to install it. So yea expensive, but still worth it. Better value than installing headers tbh. You are going to have a lot more fun with a LSD than some more horsepower.

Many advertised race kats are 100 cell but that's not going to cut it for this engine displacement. Fearing failed emissions testing really is not worth it like you say! The secondaries had at least twice the cell count compared to 200 cell magnaflows so imagine what the primaries would be The stock primaries have to be like 5-600 cell and they almost hug the header.

what kind of emission testing do you have? It is a test to check the monitors or do they use a sniffer?

Also where do you live? Why did you send it to them to have it installed? It’s pretty easy to install the diff. 900$ for labor or that’s for labor and shipping to the UK? Did no one in your town want to install it?
