"new one"?.........what's it look like?.......OK, my E55 is a 210 but back when I did that change, the 'correct' replacement came ready to mount.....no spot welds or bailing twine required.

I'm not sure what hardware your particular emblem came with, but mine came with a washer. I attached tape to the washer to keep it from falling into the hood itself. Beyond that, it was pretty straight forward.....

Duane - (seriously) - it depends on what you bought. If you bought one of the *cheap* ones on ebay it might not have even come with the proper mounting hardware. I think that this is likely given the question.
The one to get, usually $125-140, is this one: https://mbworld.org/forums/showpost....96&postcount=7
which is available from a couple of sources; I got mine from emailing a guy at the address amgbadge@yahoo.com.
If you spent $40 on the ebay version, I wouldn't even put it on. I had one and it didn't last. Not worth it.

Here is the type I have on my car. It's the same one as the guy above mentioned was $100+ but at less than half the cost. It's made of metal and has hard enamel coloring. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=7960377353

Duane,
I got an OEM flat hood ornament from my dealer in Santa Monica for $85 and they installed it for free at the 1000 mile checkup. From what I've read on this board, it doesn't sound like a difficult DIY project -- I probably would have attempted it myself had the service manager not offered to do it for free. I am very pleased with the change. The star emblem was distracting.
