How many miles should be on a new E55?
Can anyone tell me how many miles to expect on my car when I get it? My salesman told me to expect it next week and I would like to be able to detect possible joy-riding. Thanks.

Mine came with 30mi...It would really depend on how your dealership transports their cars. Some get lot techs to drive them from the dock to the dealership, while others use a car transporter.
I would track the car from the day it arrives and pick it up as soon as possible to prevent anyone from driving it.

I agree with Ali. 15 max. I think mine had like 8-9. Onesixeight, 30 miles? I'd be pissed. A couple of months ago I was at my dealer and my salesguy asked if I wanted to drive an SL65. What do you think? I said. Was surprised when I saw 60 miles on the odo. He told me people were driving the car around. I told him if I ever bought that car and took delivery with that many miles on it, they'd be finding me another.

2005 E55
Mine had something like 87 miles on it
which seemed too much and I was not pleased. But I got to the dealership right after the truck unloaded the shipment, so I know it wasn't my dealership (in SF Bay Area) that drove it. It must have been driven at the port in Socal or back in Germany.

SL 65 AMG and E63s AMG
Mine had 23 miles, I figured the dealer took a few prospective buyers around the block. There is great demand and very few cars for people to experience. As long as they didn't trash it I don't mind.
I let people experience mine often. My friends and my kid's friends love my car. It gives the kids something to aspire to when they grow up.
My message...get rich, buy a Merc, then get the quickest Merc on the planet. :v

If you don't reserve a car, it's hard to argue about the mileage. Dealers gotta let people test drive if they are serious buyers...But if it's any Joe who wants to try it just for the heck of it, that's another story.
When I was picking up my car, a guy came up to talk to me and told me he was interested in getting an e55. After we spoke for a while, I asked him if he wanted to take it for a drive (since the dealer didn't have a car)...Sure enough, he loved it and eventually got one. He told the sales manager and he gave me a $500 credit for the purchase of a new car...which I gave to my sister on her car.

I appreciate all the comments. It seems to me that my car is a special order and it will be delivered to the dealer by truck transport. Based on your comments, I feel like it should have about 5 to 7 miles. I think it would be a rather big disappointment if the dealership allows buyers to test drive my car before I pick it up.

My car had 7 miles on it when I drove it for the first time. That seemed to be an acceptable #. The GMC Yukon XL Denali I purchased in Dec. had only 2 miles on it.

Last time I spoke to my MB(UK) dealer they were allowed to put up to 70 miles on the odometer and then zero it out prior to the final delivery. Normally the MB factory road tests the car for about 3 miles but I don't know what AMG's practice is. Here, MB usually deliver a new car to the customer with 7 miles on the clock, but this mileage could simply be input by a technician. If the true total mileage exceeded 70 by the time of the customer pdi they were not supposed to reset it to avoid demonstrators being 'clocked' and sold as new.
If you ask the dealer to restrict pre-delivery mileage chances they'll do it by resetting the odometer. In the UK/Europe anyway.

I think it is against a federal law to reset an odometer in the US. It would be at least a violation of state law in Texas. The seller must sign a statement and certify the mileage on the vehicle. In my case, the car had 7 (or so) miles on it. The salesman kept one key and he gave the other one to one tech who performed the PDI and installed the illuminated door sills. The tech had to drive the car 3 or 4 miles to program the tire pressue monitoring system. It had about 10 on it when I picked it up. I am happy with that and I am confident that it was not used for demo purposes, especially since it was a special order car.
I think 10 to 15 miles is about an average amount here to get one ready for delivery. Any more than that, I would like to know why they are there.

2005 E55 Delivered 01/07/05
Mine had about 12miles on it. It probably would have had less, but my dealer (Ray Cantena Mercedes) has their prep center( er massive warehouse) about 3 to 4 miles down the road from their showroom where I took delivery.
Best Wishes with your new baby,

I think my E55 came with about 8 miles on the odometer. The E55 came with about 10 miles on the odometer, and the E320 a few years back had 8 miles on it as well.
Your warranty only starts on the car at the time of pickup, so if the dealer has put 15 miles on the car out of a 50K mile warranty, your warranty will be covered to 50,015 miles. At least its like that here in CA I think, not too sure how it is in other states or countries.

Mine had 10 miles on it and the dealer had 6 different E55 in stock at that time. I didn't even test-drive mine before I took it home....

I drive a E55T, SLK55 and 65 Mustang Conv.
Hello all,
I know when we picked up our SLK55 it had 47 miles on it and I told my husband it was too many but there was NO way he was leaving the dealership without that car. By the same token I've told him the E55T is for me and if it has more than 15 miles or so on it I will not accapt delivery on it. If it happens the fight between me and Wolf should be VERY interesting.
