New Motor Trend - E55 Wagon
4.1 0-60 sprint
12.30 1/4 mile
That is absolutely smokin' for the wagon!! Does anyone know how much heavier the wagon is compared to the sedan? I was surprised that it ran so quick, when R&T could only muster a 13.0@108 out of the car

I honestly couldn't believe it when I read it. That's faster than any test I've seen for the E55 sedan. Makes me feel my car is an underpowered POS after taking mine to the track...
If only I could justify the $$$ it would take for me to upgrade to a new wagon.

Something is going on.....First Gustav says the wagon came closer to beating the new M5 than the car.....then this info.
Perhaps a little more stout gearing in the wagon?? What gives?

I keep telling people that the extra 300lbs. the wagon carries is all in the back so it keeps the wheels down for a good launch and no one believes me. AShe is an amazing animal ismy wagon

MB E 430 Wagon Avantgarde
In Stockholm, 50% of the E-Class you see are wagons. they look kinda cool when they roll in. They are so much bigger! And the E55 wagon in action.. It's the best looking wagon out there!!!!!

I have said it before and I'll say it again. I would love nothing more than to take about a year. Go to different tracks under different conditions with a stock E55 & E55T. Put Derek behind the wheel of 1 and Jackpro (if I wrote Jim people would think I meant MT Jim) the other and have then race 50 or 60 times to see what happens. I have the feeling even if the guys switched cars often the wagon would win more often than most think!

4 wheels
Perhaps given that the wagon weighs more in the rear than our sedans could be why it has better timing than our cars, this inturn would lead to better traction in the rear making it a bit harder to spin the wheels.

911 Turbo, M5, E55 wagon
The article attributes the wagons times to weight distribution - 51% over the real wheels for the wagon vs. 47% for the sedan.
I am not a big wagon fan but it really is a lot of fun especially since it is such a sleeper.

.5 Sec for $15.00
All you E55 guys just put a couple hundred pounds of something in the trunk and the car will spend less time in traction control and you will gain .5 Sec. 0-60.
Now thats is about the most cost effective Mod. I have ever heared of! $15.00 for a half Sec. less to 60 MPH. - Bob

What! No flames yet? Well, let me say sorry BEFORE I get bashed by the Wolfs. The truth is, my family has had many e-class wagons along the way and I have always loved them. I actually wanted to get one when I got this sedan.

Hi all,
It's funny how a persons thoughts can change. We asked the magazine that used our car not to race it. They were welcome to dyno it and we know they did but we did not want to race it. Well, at dinner tonight Wolf and I were talking and DO NOT RACE IT became I'll be really upset if it comes in slower than 4.1

Just shows you the E55 / E55T just cries for a proper LSD. Any of you fiddled with rear tyre pressure for accelo times ? - Think a tad softer than std should help a touch.

Maybe the wagon is tweaked to account for the additional weight!

True in theory, and for a purpose built drag race car, however lets not loose sight that we are dealing with a production vehicle that no one would be willing to change into a weight transferring drag car. So, I say throw the ballast in the trunk and give the traction control system a reason not to interfere with the HP being directed at the rear tires and watch the 60 ft. times fall. The E55 Wagon has shown us that the HP available ( HP used up by the Traction Control) has no problem dealing with an extra 200 lbs. of ballast and lowering the ETs. True the ETs would fall even futher in an ideal world but we don't live in that world. - Bob
you should change the weight distribution without adding extra weight because a lighter car will be faster than a heavier one with the same weight distribution. You get less traction in a lighter car (less weight on the wheels) but you have less mass to move so you should be ahead. Just look at the 911S its specs are nothing special but it covers ground well at low speeds where traction is an issue.
