Anyone ever replaced windshield....how much?
Got 2 chips over the summer....I am gonna get it replaced. Had them fixed, but they are still visible.
Anyone have any idea how much a shield costs. Debating whether or not to claim in on Allstate or just pay out of pocket.
Call my wonder dealer around here and they demanded a VIN number to give me a price. I said, "look I don't care if it's 1-2 hundred bucks off, but can you give me at least an estimate. How much different can a C be from an E.
Anyway, they were the usual charming selves, and now I am here asking.
Thanks for any info.
Guess the big question is do I claim it on insurance? Perfect accident record with 0 deduct on the policy for windshields.....but will rates go up?
thanks again

Just replaced mine. My dealer did it for $600 installed. I have a $500 deductable so I went ahead a paid cash to avoid increased premiums. They seem to be very prone to stars. I got 2 in 3 weeks. Fortunately I had to order the windshield and got one of them during the wait. As far as the VIN number necessity, my dealer says that the E55 windshield is unique and not the same as other Es. I suspect that it might be lighter but that's just a guess. It may also be a different tint.

My dealer put some stuff on my windshield that supposedly protects it from any chips or cracks and if it does, the windshield will be replaced. I can get you then name of the stuff they use if you'd like for future reference. Car has 5000 miles and not a chip.

This has gotta be one of the worst rock chip areas in the US.
Thanks!!

deductable...should be only $50-$125
Not sure all the states have this but pls call your own insurance and find out. Winshield have a different deductable amount, should be $50-$125. They look at mine and said is repairable and they didn't charge me and fixed it. And they said if I want it to change, it will be $75 decductable. I didn't want them to change it since it is on the top and hard to notice so they just repair it and it is fine. I saw how they change a winshield and it scares me. THey do all kind of things like put a saw in th from and jam out all the old glude....tha't why I decided just a repair is fine for now (it's small and it is at the center top so hard to notice ) so I don't want to let them do the HARD work.
Anyway call your insurance and find out and I know most of the states have a small deductable and not going to raise your premiums for that claim. Hey that's what insurance for.

I had to replace mine when it was only 4 months old!! A little chip that was spreading fast - reported it to the Auto Club (insurance) and they took care of it at my nearest MB dealership. I can't remember what I had to pay but my premium did not go up. Also most dealerships do not have a glass man, they call an installer much the same as an individual would only they deal with one person quite often. Just make sure you get MB replacement glass not some cheaper knock off. mp
