Your belief is not borne out by the facts. Gustav banned one member of our boards, and threatened another, for doing nothing more than discussing their personal experiences with an E55 and its relative performance capabilities.

I documented it, along with other transgressions of his, in this post:

There was a post by someone who said something to the effect that the M5 is butt ugly anf Chris Bangle should get fired and way to go BMW for fuc**ng up a great car. It generated many responses and it is still on the board.
I, for one, have been a VOCAL opponent of the E60 M5 and am not subtle about it. I hav never had any of my posts censored. JMHO

I guess the key is "insulting". My assessment of that board is that you can state any opinion as long as you don't bluntly point out how illogical or foolish someone sounds about the M5. Take a look at the M5 vs. F40 thread. IMO, there is no way a moderator on MBWorld would have stepped in over that discussion.

No, it happens quite often, usually falling into one of three scenarios:

1) A BMW owner or enthusiast launches vitriolic insults against an enthusiast who writes anything favorable about a competing brand; in this case, typically nothing gets done.

2) An owner or enthusiast of another brand counterattacks, in which case he is censored, while any and all who insulted him are given a pass;

3) An owner or enthusiast of another brand posts counter arguments, backing them up with documentation, video, personal experience, etc., in which case he is censored, and/or banned. This does not always happen, and they seem to have lightened up a bit, but I've seen it happen far too many times.

Stock vs stock...at higher speeds M5 actually has more HP at the wheels then E55...

That what I was alway saying "M5 is faster then E55 at higher speeds" !!!

It's a gearing thing....

They gear their cars more agressively than Benz does....if you take the product of the gear*final drive for each cars' gears, you see that the BMW has a much higher degree of torque multiplication...*particularly* in the higher gears. In the lower gears, the advantage is substantially less, but starting in 4th gear the BMW has an enormous gearing advantage--and it shows:

Compared to E55:
gear E55 mult M5 mult % advantage
1 9.51 14.44 152
2 5.8 9.59 165
3 3.74 6.55 175
4 2.65 5.03 190
5 2.2 4.2 191

Compared to E63:

gear E63 M5 % advantage for M5
1 12.35 14.44 117
2 8.07 9.59 119
3 5.41 6.55 121
4 3.86 5.03 130
5 2.82 4.2 149

Tradeoff, of course, is poorer fuel economy....M's higher redline allows the use of shorter gears. It's all about design philosophy, no magic involved.

I can attest to what Impro is saying. The car pulls harder after 100 than before it. at 100mph in 7th gear I'm at 3k+ rpms.
