SL73 What is it?

Have any of you guys heard of any SL73? I was told it had a SLR front end and an SL rear end and it is a factory car US and cost over $300K new. It is yellow with 9000 miles. What is it? what is it worth? and what would you pay for it?

A friend who is a car dealer was offered the car and has to make up his mind in the AM.

Help?

Sounds like an older RENNTech modded SL Roadster. I remember it from a few years ago. At the time, it had some pretty impressive performance numbers. Hope this helps. I found this link: [url]http://www.supercars.net/garages/marcusmv3/127v2.htm

Not RENNTech, but AMG. I remember seeing one for sale on RENNTech webite a while back

Yes they do exist, but only very few are in existence. It will most likely be hard to sell but the SL73's where made on custom order only! Thats why you dont see a bajillion of them rolling around. Also they were conversion cars in the sense that you got an sl600 and they modified it to a 7.3 liter engine. It was the previous sl chasis(r129) not the new one. here is a link

I had read somewhere that the Sultan of Brunei never sold cars. I guess I read wrong?

No disrespect here -- but they all sell cars in my experience when their first or second 100-car garage gets so full that they cannot possibly park a new acquisition in the aisles. It's the ol', "In with the new and out with the old" thing. One of the reasons that I don't ever want to be a "collector" -- it has got to be hard to say goodbye to a loved one...know what I mean?

I think the only factory built ones built were in the late 90's so it certainly won't have the SLR front and the rear will be that of the R129.

Maybe it was one of those SL's with the aftermarket SLK front end on it. there's a yellow one running around Tampa, I think.

Save yourself a few bucks and just get an SLK55.

the yellow 230 "sl73" is really a 55 w/ a 65 bumper and 73 badges, its got florida plates, i've seen it around LA

there were 129 73's made, i saw 1 of those, they had a 7.3 liter (zonda s) engine, 2 piece sl amg wheels 18in. and chrome square amg exhaust tips w/ a whole amg exhaust im guessing.
i saw a 129 in dupont, it was for sale, must have been the same car i saw cause it was 310 area code

Are there two different threads going on right now over this thing, or is it just deja vu all over again for me?!!!!!!!!!
Let me clarify again...just to make it perfectly clear to everyone...any 7.3L V12, whether bored-out by Brabus, done-up by Renntech, or original from AMG, IS NOT THE SAME MOTOR AS THE ONE IN THE ZONDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pagani does one helluva lot of work to their motors! Output goes up by like 100 hp and 100 lbs of torque, OK?
That's like saying that the 5.5 S/C in the SL55 is the same as the one in the SLR; or that the 5.5 S/C in the SLK55 is the same motor that is in the CLK DTM -- WRONG! Got it?
Thank You.

sorry but you are wrong. The AMG 7.3 in the SL is the same exact motor as the 7.3L AMG V12 in the Pagani Zonda S. Same exact power numbers, same exhaust specs. Don't say stuff unless you dont know for sure. look on supercars.net for the specs if you dont believe me. the motor is identical. Pagani doesnt make the motors Benz does. Theres only 1 AMG 7.3 V12

i dunno how to tell u this, but ur wrong.

the original pagani zonda s has 550hp
the new zonda f has the same engine w/ more tuning (ecu) and a different airbox along w/ a few other things.... it makes 602hp OR 630hp w/ a sport exhaust.
the sl73 makes 525hp, only 25 shy of the zonda s.... this has to be because of the restrictions in the engine bay of the 129. it wouldnt be worth it for pagani to "work" on the engine and only get 25hp extra.

Let's just say (meaning we all admit, including me) that I am wrong. I was wrong once before...I think that it was in 1985? LOL
Hey - I can be wrong too; and the fact that I was so strident in my opposition certainly doesn't help either.... DUMBA$$
I have seen a few Zonda's that were 'done-up' as hot ones or track cars, whatever -- doesn't mean that the owners were correct in their claims to me about performance, or that my Butt-O-Meter was accurately calibrated either.
So...let's all admit that I was wrong and that our understanding and acceptance of the published, generally accepted performance figures stand --and that I stand corrected.
Now I am going to go pull a Mashy and change my user name to Zonda Engineer and tell you about all of the 1700hp Zonda G's (each with 12 tailpipes) that I am having Brabus NA do up in LA.

OK. Pulled my foot out of my mouth this morning and looked a few things up for published sources instead of going on my experience and memory and getting things wrong. Hope this helps -

www.QV500.com - Pagani Zonda Part 3: C12 S7.3 & S7.3 Roadster
Although the 7-litre Zonda S had only been introduced two years earlier, Pagani launched an updated version of their critically acclaimed C12 supercar at the Geneva Salon in March 2002. Featuring an AMG engine enlarged to 7.3-litres, this monstrous V12 now came equipped with a revised air intake system. Displacement was 7291cc thanks to a bore and stroke of 91.5 x 92.4mm respectively, the resultant five extra horses taking output to 555bhp at 5900rpm. With the S7.3's weight going unchanged at 1250kg, it meant the Zonda was now capable of 0-60 in just 3.6 seconds and nearly 215mph flat out.

(from Pagani Press Release) A Zonda coupé C 12 S with a strong Sporty Character (project code named Monza). Made subliminal by a development run on tracks, purposely made on request, for a customer loving the pleasant thrill given by the private road and track driving. This car has been
developed by the manufacturer to satisfy extreme wishes.

It is an example of the endless possibilities that Pagani has to “customise” the cars.

Technical features:
• The engine has been tuned increasing the power to more than 600 hp. The lubrication
system is a dry sump and the cooling system has been improved.

www.QV500.com - Pagani Zonda Part 4: C12 Zonda S7.3 Monza
At the Paris Salon in October 2004, Pagani displayed their most radical incarnation of the Zonda yet. Code-named Monza, it was built at the request of a customer who wanted a Zonda for track use. Illustrating Pagani's ability to incorporate bespoke enhancements to individual requirements, the Monza didn't comply to any specific race regulations as it wasn't intended for competition. Its suspension featured stiffer springs and dampers that were better suited to track use, the braking system including larger diameter discs and additional cooling.
AMG's 7.3-litre V12 was tuned to 600bhp, 45 horses more than in the regular 555bhp Zonda. It was fitted with dry sump lubrication, an improved cooling system and a free-flow sports exhaust without silencers or catalysts.

www.QV500.com - Pagani Zonda Part 5: C12 Zonda S7.3 F
Six months after wowing visitors to the Paris Motor Show with the awesome Monza, Pagani introduced arguably the ultimate evolution of their critically acclaimed supercar. It incorporated many of the Monza's high performance upgrades with the luxurious fixtures and fittings found in the regular Zonda variants. Known as the F in homage to Horacio Pagani's countryman, five times Formula 1 champion, Juan Manuel Fangio, this latest incarnation made its debut at the Geneva Salon in March 2005. A special edition built alongside the regular production model, the Zonda F received several major developments.
Among the most important were ventilated carbon ceramic brakes, these being fitted to the Zonda for the first time and featuring huge 380mm discs all round. Combined with custom 19 and 20-inch wheels that used titanium nuts, a weight saving of 20kg was realised. A new induction system with larger intake apertures for the engine replaced the standard Mercedes-Benz unit. This and a larger hydroformed exhaust helped the 7.3-litre Mercedes-Benz V12 reach 602bhp at 6150rpm. However, if that wasn't enough, a 650bhp Clubsport option could also be specified.

Road & Track - New Zonda F
Horacio Pagani declares that his Zonda supercar has finally reached perfection with its latest iteration, the Zonda F. The "F" is presumably for five-time F1 champ Juan-Manuel Fangio, as Pagani dedicates this car to him. The unparalleled attention to craftsmanship is made evident through details such as the wooden steering wheel and bespoke switchgear. The car is built completely by hand--ten of them to be exact. If there was ever a car that could be considered art, this is it. Not only is the Zonda beautiful, but the numbers on this car are virtually unheard of. With the clubsport package, the 7.3-liter, AMG-sourced V-12 makes 650 hp and 560 lb-ft of torque--without the use of forced induction.
