E55 2006 Extended Warranty
Just got my E55. Not having much experience with this model, and this being my first MB,
my question is: Based on your experiences, is it worth paying $4800 for extended Warranty (7 years, 100,000 miles) from MB? How many of you had to make use of it?
Thanks for your advice.

Also. If you sell the car, the warranty can be transferred. If you trade it in, it cannot be transferred. My understanding.

the information I have is that it can be for an ADDITIONAL 3 year for a total of 7 years and 100k but you have to buy it with under 12k on the clock and under 1 year of the inservice date. You can buy it after that but at increasing incriments. Also if you buy it from an out of state dealer you don't have to pay sales tax.

I would hold out to see if you have problems in the first 10 months. I intended on keeping the car when I purchased it, and was also debating the extended warranty. In the end, I let it go, and my little gremlins have continued. Now I hate to say it, I wish I got it. Instead, I might just be getting rid of the car when the warranty is up.

2014 GL 350 on order
sdg: get yours from jay park at courtesy motors in chico, CA. great price and there is no sales tax. Tell him I sent you, if you want my real name just PM me. 2005 MY allowed you to go the whole warranty period before you decide on the xtend one, is it changed on the 2006? It boils down to this as I went thru this process 2 months ago when i got mine. If you decide to keep this perfect vehicle then the 3 or 4K spent on the warranty is worth it! The motor alone is 40K to replace and all the tech systems onboard can cost you much dinero to repair. Hope this helps-Joker

If you don't have it you will need it. If you have it you won't need it. I've always gotten the extended warranty. With only one instance it pays for itself.

If you decide to get it just make sure you don't pay $4,800!!! This is negotiable. I bought mine about 9 months into the car and although I know the "list price" has gone up, I paid $2,500. You also need to do the math and figure out how many miles you drive per year and see what makes most sense i.e. 1,2, or 3 year. I'm pretty sure I'll keep my car thru the factory warranty and will decide then what to do. I may end up never using it but having it might help if someone is interested in buying it. Besides, I've blown $2,500 on worse things in my life!!

I recommend Jay Park of Courtesy Motors in Chico, CA, too. Give him a call and he has good prices for the extended warranty. Depends on how many miles you plan to drive each year, there are other options available too (i.e. DaimlerChrysler Warranty, which covers MB vehicles as well, but has better coverage including seals and gaskets, and is cheaper if you don't drive more than 10k miles per year).
Lisa Lehrbaum, who was the predecessor to Jay Park, is now the new sales manager at Courtesy Motors. She just told me that she will sell MB vehicles at $100 over invoice for West Coast customers with free delivery (Eastern folks like me can't take advantage of that because of the shipping cost... too bad....), so if you are living on the West Coast and want to by a new MB car, definitely give her a call !!

The MB warranty has to be bought within the mileage and times as mentioned above. The dealer also sells other policies they will honor.
If you keep the car beyond the MB warranty, it's really a crapshoot.
