Finish on my HRE's going south...pics
I was wondering if anyone has seen or heard of this problem. The wheels are less than 1 year old and some type of clear coat on the brushed centers has started to bubble/peel. Peter at Wheelexperts responded promptly to my e-mail and informed me that HRE will refinish them if less than 1 year old. That reassured me.
But, I am wondering why this would happen in the first place. As you know, these are not cheap. Anybody else experience this?

Heard of it happening before. I'm not sure why though. If they replace or refinish them I guess that's a plus. I love those wheels on your car. Send me some pics if you can.

Yeah, I've had it happen before...be thankful that Peter is a great salesman and provides excellent customer service. I'd suggest sending all 4 wheels back to get refinished.
Why does it happen? Many possibilities...salt on the road, weather/humidity, thin/inconsistent layer of clear, blemishes on wheel (due to manufacturing process) which don't allow for clear to seal properly, additives in wheel cleaners...etc.
Beautiful wheels, take good care of them.

It happened on my HRE 547Rs. Mine was peeling in big 4x4 inch pieces. HRE refinished it but it happened again after about 6 months. After which I had them just repolish my wheels and not re-clearcoat it anymore. Now my problem is I have to repolish my wheels yearly.

I am dissapointed as well with HRE. Mine are about two years old but only about 2000 miles on them and they are peeling. Since they are older than 1 year they will not be covered. Not what you would expect for a 6k set of wheels.
