Talking Don't Tell Your Friends You Have NAV

NewMoses - I'd be pissed to if I had just spent $ 1,500.00 on a NAV system that was less adept than a Toyota's. If the NAV system is CD driven can a different CD be used that would have the Info. that is missing from the MB CD? After saying this, I must say you already know where you are going and your E55 is an awsome way to get there. So, go make a few WOT runs and maybe terrorize a Porsche or a Ferrari and relax, you have an awsome car to enjoy!! - Bob

I love my E55 and I have to agree, the Nav system sucks! I have commented in other strings that my Nissan had a much better system. My Dealer did some kind of software update but that didn't help. I don't know how many times I have searched for a street that was 10 to 20 years old and the NAV did not have it. Mercedes needs to improve it something fierce.

I will continue to buy Mercedes but probably not get NAV.

LOL... I called NAV on euro cars are retarded.... but you are still lucky.... the NAV on my C55 is not only retarded... but the joystick is very annoying (I think E55 has the cursor and OK button, right?). You have to be very very careful when pressing "OK". Otherwise, it will just move the highlight / cursor instead of "OK"ing.

But I'll still buy an MB w/ NAV.... at least it looks cooler and should attract more buyers

My little Garmin Nuvi 350 is 1000 times better than my NAV in my E55. I expect the Nav unit to be a bit better considering the price I paid for the car. (No touch screen? The GS430 Nav unit kicks ***).

But I didnt buy the E55 for the Nav, I bought it because I like its sleeper look, power on demand and its monsterous torque!!!

So you're never going to get another MB, because of the Nav?

I don't have a Nav system so I can't gripe about it. I do pay for the Mercedes equivalent of ONSTAR, I forget the name, but you push the "I" button next to the phone and they will assist you getting any where you want. I much prefer that method rather than f-ing with more worthless electronics.

Spending in the $100,000 range gives you lots of nice options when considering a new car. I'm not outraged that MB failed to duplicate the permormance of a $400 unit with their $1,500 unit. I'm not even shocked that the company didn't outsource the NAV unit to a company with a proven record. What pisses me off is that there is an easy fix. Just update the software to allow a search by NAME. Hell, the C-class has that functionality! The NAME search function is clearly an oversight, and it's an error that Mercedes has no interest in fixing. THAT'S what pissed me off. It would likely take a programmer less than an hour to add search by name functionality and it could be included in your regular DVD update. I'm dismayed that despite spending $90,000 my car company thinks that is too much trouble.
