Tried it this morning, damn it pulls like a wild horse. I can smell the tires after parking in the garage. Do we need to reset it everytime before starting up the car?

But what I notice (w/ my '01 E55).... the shift points are completely different (it seems the transmission is too lazy to shift ). It almost always allows me to go to red line even it's not WOT.
Plus, it feels A LOT (I mean A LOT) smoother when shifting (I said in a separate thread that after replacing MAF, my transmission is a bit rougher than usual).

Should we do every time before starting the car? Or... every day / week?

That's why it is called "adaptive" ... so let it adapt! It is certainly less wear and tear on the engine and the tranny to "teach" it this way!
I am not an IT expert, but I think that re-writing the chip is not the same as
erasing and re-writing a magnetic device like a hard drive?
In the meantime, I am doing mine at the end of each day.

Damn, I need to try this on my '98 E320. I hardly drive the car hard though...
Anyways, I swear that I reset the ECU by mistake. (I think it was while cleaning the windows and I florred the gas pedal for some reason.)
When I went to drive it, it shifted a lot higher RPM (like it was reluctant to shift) and at half throttle, it shifted at redline. <--Which was very bothersome and caused me some concern!
Bottom line was, it had me very confused.

VIDEO and test results and 0-100kph times after ECU tuneup
I just tested my car with the G-TECH PRO RR after the ECU tuneup.
My previous best times in the same location were consistent 4.7sec 0-100
kph (0-62.5mph)
Today, I just could not get out of the hole! There is so much wheel spin from the start, that the ESP cuts all the power every time, even with the "one-second-throttle-squeeze". The best I could do was 4.9 sec with a shocking 20m in 2.49 sec.
Given that my previous best 60' was 1.874sec (=20m approx 2.05sec), that would be a loss of 0.44sec in the first 20m. I tried 6 times and it was all 4.9-5.0sec with the same 0-20m half second loss.
Had I been able to control the accelerator a little better and eliminate that 0.44 sec handicap, this car would have done 4.46sec 0-100kph or 4.2 sec 0-60mph! Certainly LSD and DR's would be nice too, but then we could not compare the results with a stock set up.
I then tried repeating the exercise with ESP OFF...those fat PS2 285's aren't cheap, so it is not a good idea and definitely not for the faint hearted...WOOOOW!
So there you have it, the stock E55 seems to be much faster than before the ECU "tuneup", but it will take a few more launches to learn to put this extra power and torque down to the road!
Check out this video of me "merging" with 60mph traffic...

Glad I was able to help. As my original post mentions (see Rock's link above), this procedure is supposed to work with any drive-by-wire vehicle.

It seems to work w/ my Maxima... and I don't think my 4th gen maxima is drive by wire....
Rafal:
WTH??? Did you just drop off one of your passengers off the highway to video tape your merging?? I would never want to be in your car then....

This is officially the best. Works wonders on the E55 and the S55 I'm looking at buying. Especially after the S55 had been driven by a 70 year old man.. Just rips off the line, feels much stronger! Spread the word!

"On" position is two clicks to the right - all of the instruments displays will light up.
"Off" position is all the way to the left - no display lights of any kind, but do not remove the key.
BTW, I didn't invent the procedure, just found it on the 'net. I don't know of any possible damage it can to to the ECU, but I think doing it every time you start the car may be a scosh extreme.
Its effect seems to depend on the nature of the driving you've been doing - good way to clear the cobwebs if you've been stuck in traffic once too often.

holy cow - '61 Chateau Petrus!!! that rings a bell...
It was reported here in press in the UK a few years back now some banker guys here in London went for a "lunch" one a/noon after closing some monster deal.
They apparently managed to get through a few bottles of wine in the process - amongst them some vintage Petrus.
They also managed to spend £44,000 on the lunch (~$83k) . All on wine. The restaurant threw in the food for free. Soon after this hit the press some were apparently dismissed from the bank in question.
