- Mercedes-Benz E-Class AMG: How to Reset Your ECU
Step by step instructions for do-it-yourself repairs
Holy Crap you guys.....sneaky ECU reset WORKS!!!
I get that it is clearing the history on the adaptive transmission and so it goes back to learning your driving style. My Lexus has this too, but much different process to reset.
My problem is that I have had the car for three weeks and the thing is a monster. I am not sure I will notice even more power. It is good to know for after a long road trip.
Thanks again for the help and to all those that contribute to this forum. It is a very valuable resource.
Once I do the four steps and let it sit for 2 minutes, what do I do then? Start it up? Take the key out and then put it back in and start it?
You will hear this every time you take your key out of the ignition and wait for 30 seconds. The systems shutting down and the actuator motors are closing the vent flaps. This has NOTHING to do with the TCU reset.
Proof? Sit inside your car, turn the radio off, take the keys out and sit and wait. You don't even have to lock yourself in. Just sit and wait and you will hear it after 30 seconds to max 2 minutes (I never had to wait that long). The CAN Bus shuts down even sooner (as soon as your cluster display turns off, the CAN Bus is asleep).
And are you saying that this reset does absolutely nothing? This thread should really be entitled adaptives reset.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
- with your foot off brake
- push keyless button 2x (once is for aux, 2nd is for full ON)
- Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold
- push the keyless go again (turns off), hold the gas pedal for five seconds
- Release the gas pedal and wait at least two minutes for ECU to reset (don't open doors or mess with any radio settings, etc)
I usually hear a dull "ping" when the ECU finally resets

Nutshell:
OP's method makes throttle responsive
ECU adaptation reset via STAR nothing extremely noticeable
TCU adaptation reset via STAR makes the downshifts and up-shifts pretty violent. You will feel jerks each time gears are changed. They shift pretty fast too.
Don't bother with the STAR reset. Stick to this.
Just my 0.02
Thanks,

Thanks,
After TCU starts to adapt and slow shifting I consider that shifting issues
just kidding. I remember you from JC. Good to see you here.
When you want that your TCU shifts more aggressive and rather sooner than later then the TCU key reset (explained here in this thread) is what you want.
