Stock Z06 1/4 11.204 @ 127.55 mph

For all of us who own or have owned E55's, our local MD guru Ranger ran this weekend at Cecil County,MD. His BONE stock 06 Z06 ran 11.204 @ 127.55 mph. I may not mod this car when it arrives this fall with this type of out of the box performance.

Great time! On a good day, if you can shift and hook up well, I'm not surprised the Z06 would run low 11s.

Was he on the stock Goodyears?

With a mass of 3300 pounds in the 1/4 mile, that trap speed translates to about 535 HP. Looks like GM might be sandbagging again.

No offense, your statement made no sense.

Made sense to me... That speed @ that weight calculates to more than the HP GM claims the car produces. A good thing, mind you.

But HOLY MOLEY that is amazing. For a bone stock car that can be had for ~$75k used, that is really a breakthrough on the price/performance scale. Amazing! They also look beautiful. If it didnt have a chevy logo on it, I'd think it was exotic Italian made...

The inerior is fine with me. Not the best, but nice and modern. I'm happy with less. Give me comfy seats, some tech gadgets (GPS, etc) a booming stereo and usable storage and I'm cool. Comfortable ride, quiet, usable car as a daily driver... Really an amazing ride! And 11.2 STOCK! Whoa.

The only problem for me is the Corvette brand. Call me a snob, but in my circles, "Corvette" still translates to hairy-chested mid-life-Burt Reynolds type guy. Not that I haven't bought plent of cars that aren't 'cool' but there is a big brand hit. If it were a Foreign car, or a different brand of domestic, I'd be that much more passionate about getting one.

Ten more years of amazing stats like this and the rep may change

Yeah, even when you consider that GM is using the new SAE standard, it's still underrated.

Every Z06 stock dyno I have seen has the car in the 530HP-550HP range. Having always been a Porsche and MB owner, I would of never considered a Corvette for the reasons mentioned above until now. What they did with the C6 and more importantly the Z06 is simply amazing. They have raised the bar and have made the car more exotic and euro looking allowing buyers that would of never considered a corvette to consider it. Even as the model 06 year comes to a close dealers are still asking $10K-$20K over MSRP.

Looking forward to getting my 07 BLK Z06 later this year. For 07, they added Onstar, upgraded BOSE system(was already great) with controls on the on the steering wheel, redesigned key fob (eliminated spare key since it pops out of the fob), larger glove box, and more sound insulation to allow the interior to remain quieter.

The amazing thing is that the car is under $70K MSRP.

Was that with stock rubber? stock filters ? and with no exhaust mods whatsoever ?. (I know you can fit 345 bfg's on those cars with no problems)

I have seen several dyno completely stock and make from 430 to 450 rwhp on a dyno-jet. Goes to show you that our five speed auto tranny is pretty efficient.

Spero, congrats on the new car. Those are crazy numbers for any car right out of the box. I saw a black one at an auto show last night and it definitely makes a statement and boy!!! does it sound mean.

Almost all universally praise this car but did you see this Top Gear review? http://www.autospies.com/article/ind...98&categoryId= This guy is too much.

He may of been running with his DR's which you are right are 345's for his 11.2run. Every other part of the car is stock. His last time out he ran a 11.3 with the crappy stock run flats.

His politics during the segment were a indicator of the final outcome. The not too subtle digs at Americans during the nav segment weren't even clever.

If it's about performance, the Z06 is kicking Bavarian and Italian butt.

If this car came with Porsche label, people would be writing, "who cares about the interior, can you believe the performance."

Having taken up for Corvette (is it really a Chevy?) I should mention that my wife once said to me, "I'd rather spend $100,000 for a Porsche, than $50,000 for a Corvette." I'm gonna' keep her.

Makes perfect sense. Look at any GM write outs on their car's HP numbers. The Trans Am is a perfect example. The T/A w/ WS6 package is listed at 325 crank hp. But on the dyno, it's about 305rwhp. GM just always seems to under-rate their cars power, on the T/A and Camaro, they probably did it to boost up the hype on the 'Vette power. Nonetheless, there's a little history lesson =]

Yeah, GM has a history skewing HP numbers to maintain images. The Vette is considered their flagship performance vehicle, so the LS1 Camaros & F-Birds were rated lower, even though the engines were identical.

Back in the day, the engines were actually altered to maintain the performance image. An example is the GTO, Pontiac's performance flagship. The first Firebird 400 that came out in 1967 had the same engine as the GTO. It should have performed a little better, bring a little smaller - but it didn't. What Pontiac did was to install linkage on the Quadrajet carburator on the Firebird that only allowed the secondaries to open about 2/3 of the way. Plus, they used heavier springs on the distributor weights that caused the timing to advance slower. Insideous b@stards.

the vette zo6 has been and will always been great bang for buck performance.
but do u want to be caught driving a vette? not me.

and at 70k, yes, still good price for the performance offered, but its alot of money for a chevy thou.

just my 2 cents.

Spero, congrats on the car but the performance isn't any more amazing than what you sold. Think about it. The E's is somewhere around 800-1000lbs heavier than the Z06. At .1 per 100 pounds it should be out running our stockers by almost a full second! What was your fastest run in Mike's Z06? What was Mikes fastest run in his Z06? Most guys can't get this car down the track anywhere close to Ranger. I've seen your driving skills, you better stick with the mods. We've had a lot of guys run 12.0's stock and a few run high 11's stock. That in a car with how many inches of rubber less than the Vette and how much heaver? The new Z06 is incredible, and it's a great car but, no more impressive than the E55.

I agree two very impressive cars the biggest difference for me is one looks fast the other is very deceptive. After you beat someone in the E you get the priceless on their face. Don't you just love that.

Btw: That's the color I would choose for the Z06 also.

Hey Dude,

Lets get together soon. I need to go see Tim and get re-stocked. The only problem would be that the Z will pull over 1.2g's and our modded E's will get slightly over 1g

I can not see myself 1/4 dragging this car very often. I may get back into tracking it like I did my 911TT.

Our E's with the mods are sick and so easy to drive.

I just went up there and picked up a couple of cases of different wines. I'm still having a hard time building a collection. The wife and I are crushing a bottle a night and I can't get up there to buy enough stuff. Hope all is well and we do have to get together soon.

Dude,

I have been working so f****ing hard getting this new venture off the ground. These past 4 months of working 15 hours a day and getting up at 4/4:30 am every morning is getting old!

Remind me again why @ 39 I wanted to create a new start-up? On the bright side, it paid all its bills first month out (that never happen with any other business venture I started).

Yeah, that I remember. All LS1 cars, GM just wanted to make the vette look like the king of the line.

And Grumpy, sorry about that. I misunderstood your statement as having a trap speed of 535 hp, which didn't make any sense to me at first.
