Angry I have been neutered (I don't like my car anymore part II)

Well folks,

I had my car on the dyno this morning and as much as I had braced myself for the worst, the results still shocked me to some extent.

And the numbers are (drum roll please...)

1st run - 317.9 whp, 385.1 tq

2nd run - 306.1 whp, 368.1 tq

3rd run - 302.3 whp, 364.8 tw

Obviously this is one sick Benz and not in a good way.
I'm beside myself right now

At WOT the A/F ration took a nose-dive and the dyno wouldn't show anything less than 10.0 to 1, isn't this cylinder wall washing territory? This can't really be software alone, there has to be a mechanical failure as well.

I'll post the dyno plots as soon as I get near a scanner.

Maybe my dealership will believe me this time when I tell them the car feels hella-sluggish while I shove the dyno results in their face...

I have to go calm my nerves now and prepare for the inevitable brawl with my SA

I just got my car back from service. They did the recalls and some other stuff on it. I also told them my car was lacking power and they actually found something wrong and fixed it and the car is better now. The 2 pin connector at the SC clutch was not seated properly and the SC was not always running when it should have been.

My car was not as bad as yours but it would only do 12.3 @ 113.5 with DR's so I knew something was wrong. You might have more than one issure to be that far down in HP.

OK - that is not the result of a software update. Something is very wrong with your car. Tell your dealer to get cracking.

In a way, you're lucky. Obviously, there is something very wrong with your car. I went through the same thing and it turned out the supercharger was not working after they did the software update. The problem is if you only have a modest fall off in power, which is where I am now. Leave them the car and call national MB number if they continue to give you a hard time. That's what I did and they finally fixed the problem.

Compared accelleration #s on G-tech and the 0-60,1/4 mile are in the same range as before (12.9s @ 114mph before,12.9s@ 115 after recall ) in my truck.

Take it to a different MB dealership if there's one in your area, you definitely are not getting your money's worth. Do something quick, the condition could be getting worse and worse, since the source is not evident

Just out of curiosity, why do so many people think the M.E. software flash update diminishes performance??

You're down about 100 HP for a stock car - this is definitely more than software (fuel/spark) will cause. But it's too high for the S/C to not be working. With the A/F ratio going pig rich at WOT, my guess would be you're losing boost. Can you data log or can you connect a boost gauge? If this HP loss is due to the ECU reflash, it may be confirmation that MB is playing with the bypass valve. We would need to know your boost level at WOT to confirm - it should be about 12# for a stock car.

I am right there with you... And I definitely feel your pain...

Yesterday I got my shredded belt replaced while I wait for the Evosport revised pullies and new belt to arrive from California. I thought the car would run alot better with the new belt... It was better, but, it was far from where it should be.

Feels like a complete slug.. Can barely spin the tires while rolling in 2nd gear anymore.. Hell, I used to spin them at will in 3rd gear before with those massive 295 on the back.. Now, in 2nd gear , rolling at 40mph I can barely get them to move. This car is a completely different vehicle after that bloody recall reflash. Even though my tuner reprogrammed it again with the old firmware, something is still not right. I wonder if the programming they did needs something special to have it reversed?????

I was within inches of driving my car right to my car broker and asking him to get rid of it because I am getting sick of dealing with this type of stuff. Between the cooling pump problems, S/C disengaging, belt loosening, and now this damn ECU problem I've about had it myself.

I'm giving it one more shot... If it doesnt get resolved, its going on the chopping block.. Its either a Viper TT or an SL600 TT next.

Dyno results

Sorry for the wait.

Temperature was right around 72F and the car sat for almost 45 min before the first run. The first available appointment with the dealer is this coming Wednesday... My presence was requested to go with the technician in order to verify the powerloss... Lucky me

Making myself available for various test drives and dyno runs is becoming expensive.

Grumpy,

I will make them prove that the car is making boost as advertised.

Looking at your dyno plots, in addition to the overall reduced power:

- If you go again, ask them to start the pull about 1000 RPM lower.
- Have you done the IC pump upgrade? You're losing about 25 HP from first pull to third.
- At 5000 RPM, it looks like airflow is significantly reduced, causing your A/F ratio to nose dive - probably from reduced boost.

I think you are not making any boost. The reason power falls so sharply on top due to non-spinning blower becoming a major restriction.

Try this. Pull the engine cover off and unplug the blower connector. It is on the left side of the clutch and looks like a "squished cigar case".

If the car feels the same, than you know that you have no boost.

Good Luck!

I feel your pain...for comparison here was my crappy K2 dyno from 1 year ago-- culprit a leaking coolant/heat exchanger hose...notice the ASTRONOMICAL IATs.

Its fixed now but should give you a lower limit for HP....if I didn't have any mods I am not certain at all that these #s would have been any different though...so I am not sure how you get down another 70 rwhp to where you are at.
