Its v diff getting the box on the holes for the bolts catch on the surge tanks on my install... I think they will wear through after 3-4 air filter changes. Honestly think these bolt holes should have been metal and the airbox done in 3 pieces with the inside of teh airbox also epoxied. there is quite a bit of exopsed CF on the air box's internals.
I did not fit the Pipercross airfilters - The paper filters seem to have much more surface area, although are paper. I'll try the filters later on.

No fault codes but given how tight this thing fits I am a little concerned should something crack / break I am going to have a few pieces of CF flying through my SC impellers, inlets, valves, pistons, sleeves...
Initially this did not bother me much but the box sits so tight all you need is an unwanted jolt and it might crack and that would be enuf to release some debris into the motor. Maybe I am just paranoid but it does leave me a little nervous I have to say. If there was more flex in the unit I wouldn't be worried about any cracking etc... The other issue was in the inside of the box - when I stuck my hands up the inside to try get it mounted onto the TB properly (its actaully the easiest way to pull the AB on for fitting I found) my hands were covered in CF splinters as the inside was not expoxied. This is when I first started thinking that if its getting on my hands it could be getting in the engine. I might just polyeurethane the inside next time I change filters even if it is just to save my precious hands.
Thats just my 2c on a great looking piece of kit.

I doubt the AB would result in Butt dyno detectable differences ... all I know currently with all my mods combined (I know some are controversial ) she feels brutally quick. But no hard data yet ....
In my opinion you would probably gain more than half the claimed increase in power from the Porterfield filters alone. But again thats my 2c...
The AMG design of the filter box with the screws is actually pathetic. They should have 4 maybe 5 latches. I still cannot figure why they would use screws over latches.

I have the same problem. I cannot get the box to seat properly. I've shaved the black rubber material on the 80mm TB but I still cannot get the air box to "lock in". One more shot this week.......fingers crossed.

Get the AB as far over the TB as possible (a little oil on the TB and O ring helps)... i.e. almost touching the top right bolt of the TB when viewing the engine from the front... then clip the bottom sections of the OEM filter into their positions ... then slide in the filters from the front - thats relatively easy ... but try not to disturb the AB position on the TB too much - side to side jiggy-jiggy is ok but no front to back. Ease the AB over the OEM housings .. again trying not to disturb the mounting over the TB too much.
Wouldn't a 3 piece setup be a whole lot easier to fit !!!! I might still chop mine in 3 pieces if I can work out a retaining system to keep the AB over the TB mouth.

Steve.. No worries about it being tight.. The airbox moves as one piece with the engine. As the engine sways the airbox sways with it.
Hey Dave.. Sorry that you are still having trouble trying to install it.. The only point of interference is the black rubber on the TB which I shaved on my own car to make it fit also. Other than that it should go in.. its very very tight but it does go. I've tried installing both ways, and having the airbox assembled outside the car as 1 piece and then dropped in was the easiest way.
Take a pic please next time you put it on the car and email it to me then give me a call and lets work through it.

2005 E55 - 20" GFG - VRP AirBox
VRP CF Airbox, Tubes & Cover
Just installed my VRP Airbox and I am actually surprised the difference it made. The car is noticably faster. On top of all of that, take a look at the pictures....For a single mod, it is totally worth it. Not only does it make the car faster...but so much nicer...Waiting to get the VRP Short Headers...Can't Wait..Vic....You the man...Thanks...

I dont think it will... If the TB & stock airbox on the SL500 are the same as SL55 then it will.. but I believe the TB & Airbox arrangement on the 500 is different.
Thanks for the kind words!
Vadim is running 55 airboxes on the C32 so I know they will fit, but I am not sure if this 1 piece rigid CF airbox will fit... Better to PM Vadim.. He will know for sure as he knows the C32 inside & out.
