*** $1,500 CF Airbox with HP benefits ***
The idea is to create a 100% pure carbon fiber airbox with a similar design to the Renntech box that is sold for $3,800. Renntech claims that their box adds 15 - 20hp.
This is going on my car as well so I guarantee that the product will be perfect otherwise I wont want it for myself let alone allow someone else to buy it.
What I am proposing is that we get anyone who is interested in this to poney up $200 each. That money would go towards the purchase price of the finished product which I am aiming to get at $1,500 per copy.
If we can raise $3,500 it will cover the cost of the mold + 1 airbox. Whatever is above that I will cover myself to take this project to completion.
If everyone steps up and is willing to do this I will do all the leg work, provide all the testing and pics and handle the build and distribution. I will post information on a day-to-day basis to update on the status of the project.
Those that are interested and are willing to contribute please reply to this thread with the amount of your contribution.
Once everyone has replied we'll see where we stand monetarily.. If there is enough I will go and get some concrete $$$ figures on production and go and meet with the company that will take this on.
Let's see what we can do as a collective community.

If the results of the dyno are to everyone's liking then we proceed to the next step and move forward with *A* design (we have to decide what *OURS* will look like) & create the mold. Everyone who has pitched in will vote and say whether we should move forward or not.
If the results don't please everyone then we sell off the Renntech box and give back equal shares of the proceeds to each of the contributors. Worst comes to worst, everyone loses a little bit of money to determine if these air boxes are all that they are cracked up to be instead of being stuck with a $4,000 piece of carbon fiber that just looks good.
How does that sound?

I am in the "computer" business. If you are familiar with computer hardware then you will relate to this statement:
Think of me as a multi-threaded, multi-processor, computing machine capable of working on multiple things at the same time. Just like a computer, I frequently task-switch. When 1 task is "stuck", I switch to another one until it becomes "un-stuck".
Don't worry.. That bypass valve has been in my head since it was discovered 4 months ago.. I wont soon forget about it.

Sounds fair enough.
By the time we are done I think that we will have 10 or so cars with 700hp or MORE running around..

Heck if this group R&D model works, we can tackle the heads project next.

This is great!!
Cams, Airboxes.....we gotta get a group buy on head porting and we'll have it all!!!
The only thing I know about computers is there are a lot of companies that apparently know me because they keep sending me messages asking if I want to buy Vicodin or Viagra !!!

I already have a RennTECH CF airbox on my 500E... and it's a nice product.

The problem is not with Y-splitter going into the TB.
I have been working on a set of CF airboxes for the past several years. I am trying to make them universal, meaning 32s, 55s and including 63s which are just coming out - in order to keep price down.
Preliminary tests on Stage II 55s are worth 15-20 RWHP.
Here is a teaser:
However, they might not look like that as the end product.

Where is the restriction in the current setup if its not the Y pipe as Vadim was saying - sweet design there vadim !!!
Anyway count me in for $200 victor ... .
should be a sweet match to the VRTB (suppose we need to keep this 80mm vs 76mm diam. in mind in the design phase) ?
Please.. I welcome your input or anyone elses.. Nothing is written in stone.. I only have 2 choices for airboxes (GruppeM & Renntech) to look at currently. I chose the Renntech to test because it is a better design over the GruppeM one which is more for show than Go.
The idea is to TEST Renntech's box and validate their claims. If it actually does produce more power then we know the design works and we can look at how we can improve on it or change it to suit our needs. We are making a mold from scratch so we have a blank piece of paper to work from.
I havent had the Renntech box in my hands to look it over closely but based on some pics I saw, they have increased the volume of air boxes on each side and made them converge into 1 piece at the top just before it enters the TB.
The idea would be to keep that exit point of the airbox at 80mm and for stock cars use a silicon hose adapter (reducer from 80mm to 74mm) and 2 clamps to attach it. For cars with the 80mm TB, it will connect with the same silicon piece but no reducer.
I am not sure what you plan on doing with your design, but, if you want to be included in this, by all means... This would be an opportunity to get your design manufactured and available for sale.
If you've already tested your box on Stage II cars and you got 15-20rwhp then you are already ahead of the game because Renntech claims 15-20 at the crank.

Mikey.. Buddy... Are you in ?
Will this intake work in our road conditions...or too mcuh dirt would be getting inn ???
I think the best idea is to create the box with 80mm openings so that when people are ready to upgrade this design will be optimized for it. At the same time a simple silicon reducer will allow stock TB cars to attach to it.
