Quote: Way quicker? Hmmm, you mind slipping the source of that "info"?
Blasted magazine, I can't seem to recall the name. The bloody scallywag lamented: "How did the M5 fall of so fast?" Obviously a bit disturbed the M5 got blagged of it's status so quickly. And immediatly following his whinning, he stated: "The E63 is way quicker throug the gears than the current E55." More or less like that. Some Road&Track or Car&Driver... one of those magazines. They were reviewing the M5, E63 and the new R8 or RS8 whichever.

Another magazine, one I do remember, is the official Mercedes-Benz Enthusiast magazine-- they reviewed the E63 and commented much the same: Bottom line, it's faster. They stated the old E55 blasted to 60 in a rather lame--tame rather, 4.7 seconds ( slow car, I dont see what all the fuss is about!), whilst the new E63 accomplished the same deed in a faster yet still unimpressive 4.5 seconds. A bit off topic, I find it a tad bit sad a Pontiac GTO bone stock can crush an E55 and keep up with an E63. I lost much respect for the E-class, AMG in general after reading that.

Wether I believe it or not is irrelevant, I'm just stating what I've read.

Anyways, yeah... go E-Class...

I hate to break it to you but no stock gto will keep up with an e55 at the track or the street. I have several buddies with gto's including my friend Manny with heads and cam package, headers, exhaust, convertor and a nice shot of nitrous who has ran 11.00's at moroso and 11.80's of the bottle. His fastest pass stock was 13.60.

I agree, no stock gto is gonna touch an E55.

There are magazines placing the GTO at 4.7 to 60 and the E55 at 4.7-- some even at 4.8! If his fastest pass stock was 13.6, he probably had no idea how to shift, no pun intended.

What are you smoking man? GTO's are NOT that quick stock, geared way too long and have slushy suspensions that need to be done away with. Mid to high 13's maybe.

And the article reviewing the M5, S6 and e63 was heavily biased against the M5's SMG tranny. They HATED it and loved the 63's new gearbox. I personally adore my SMG, but that's after driving it for weeks. I'm interested to see how the 63 handles compared to the 55 though, is it really going to be that much of a difference (hope so)?

If you say so... I tell you though, don't be surprised if you race a GTO with your M5 and he's right next to your door.

Already raced a modded one on route 280 the day after my break-in service, and he was right next to the guy 3 cars behind me after a few seconds. No chance whatsoever. You're comparing a 507hp car with a close-ratio 7 speed gearbox that shifts faster than any human to a repackaged manual LS2 in a sloppy, soon-to-be-cancelled pontiac.

The car is an automatic.

Exodus just go to www.dragtimes.com and do a search for pontiac gto , click on the 1/4 mile number and look for a bone stock time.

Nobody's doubting the performance potential of the LS1/2/6 engine, my father has an '03 Lingenfelter 427 and that thing will absolutely molest most cars on the road, but a stock GTO has "only" 400 ponies and even with a manual has horribly spaced out gears. Sure you slap a blower on that and you'll mean some business, but a stock GTO is not going to touch most AMG's on this board, and it sure as hell isn't coming anywhere near my M5.
