Smile V12 biturbo engine swap?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MERCE...45963281QQrdZ1

If it's rated at 550HP/664 ft-lb TQ - it's from the Maybach, not the Sl65/S65/CL65.

Heh, starting point for your own E V12?

............I have been looking at this sort of thing ever since I came across an 03 S600 engine four months ago. My idea was to use it in an E-320 4matic. What I never figured out was the engine ECU problem. Yes I can buy an ECu for a v12 biturbo car, but how can I unmarry it from the v3 biturbo and marry it to another chasis type. There is a company that can do this, but they are currently only able to do pre-2002 MB's.

what would be even nicer is if some one developed a Twin Turbo swap for the 55K Its been done on other makes and I am sure it could be with this monster.

If it could be done on a ford GT it can on a MB

I'm confused why you'd want to trade the SC for a TT? I personally love the low end vs top end power, so just wondering. I have always been curious about a boost system (NO2) or SC that did not use the engine to spin it. I can see where there are great gains to be had there, but not sure if I am a huge fan of a V8TT.

simple answer Jangy is more boost with less heat(no SC robbed power) and more power. Major down fall of course is low end power

Turbo motors can make a tremendous amount of torque....it's all in the turbo sizing.

I've been toying with the idea of a rear-mounted turbo system (maybe STS) on a 210 E55.

The stock 600 engine has 590 lb-ft of torque at 1800 rpm to 3,500 rpm. How would that really be considered losing anything compared to a 55K engine that has 516 lb-ft from 2,650 rpm to 4,500 rpm? The stock 600 has more power than the 55K engine just about everwhere in the RPM range. I do think that between 700 rpm and 1,400 rpm the 55K has a slight edge.

The 600 engine is an ECU tune away from 600+ hp. You could get silly on the 600 by adding new turbos and probably bump it up to 800+ hp but I'm not sure how the engine would cope. You would, without a doubt, have to use an electronic wastegate so you could limit the low end torque to an acceptible level so you don't blow the tranny.

I wonder with larger turbos what is the limit for the stock engine and tranny?

I think Renntech is topping out the tranny at a little over 700 lb-ft at the wheels.

I understand about the low end power. Main thing I should have said is the power band will be shifted. You wont have the monster tq at the blip of the throttle.

I was comparing a 55k engine to a 55TT swap not the MB 600 engine

I think the Tranny limit is higher than that also?
Thought I saw some 800ftlbs.

Maybe I'm missing what you are trying to say. The 2003 and later 600 engine is a 5.5L twin turbo. Yes, the throttle response is not as quick in the 600 as it is in the 55K but the 600 twin-turbo makes up for that very quickly. Not to mention the 600 tt is smooth as butter when compared to the 55K.

Wish we could find out how that guy did the SLR motor in the SLK. How the heck did he get the ECU to work. Whoever unlocks that, unlocks AMG motors being used in everything from drag cars to power boats.

The guy that did my dyno was really into the torque curve, even though of course it was messed up, you still could see it SPIKE at super low RPM.

I am not fighting you man!!!! LOL I know the benefits of a TT. I am just saying the power band will be shifted a bit

The displacement of the V8s helps a hole bunch.

What I am really getting at is bigger turbos than what the current 600 has. On a 55k engine.

We are on the same page

It's not necessarily the sizing of the turbos, but the boost you run. I don't know what the compression ratio for the 55k motors are, but if its anything close to 10:1 (like some of the other, and my, M113 motor), then you won't be able to run more than a few PSI.

How about twincharge?! Turbo + supercharger. It could be done.

Newton22: My comments were WRT powerband+torque.

Look at the new TT 335i - max torque as soon as 1500 rpm. The smaller turbos needed to achieve that torque profile need to be small enough to spool at just off-idle.

A turbo setup for a 55 motor needen't be quite so conervative due to the larger amout of exhaust gas and existing NA torque.

So who's doing the bloody swap already?
