I'm not sure about Steve, but I saw the AMG alcantra wheel on Ebay for about $700 and it had the gear shifters on it.

I personally love the MP Design, since I wanted some wood. Kleeman's and Renntech's are also nice, but a few hundred more than the MP Design.

I agree but I've been warned the wood can get pretty hot and uncomfortable... have you had any issues while it's been warm the past few months?

I just got mine last week, so no feedback on that. My wife's ML had a wood wheel and I had NO issues with comfort. i really like the leather to wood contrast in feel and looks.

2018 E63S,
How difficult is it to install? I was looking at my factory wheel and found no visible screws. Whats the process for removing the old wheel? Are any special tools necessary?

To remove the steering wheel you will need a size 27 Hex head, I have one that has a socket end which was needed because you have a short area to work with.

Once you remove the two screws, one on each side behind the wheel, the airbag becomes loose and removable. At this time is when you should disconnect the battery. There are two connectors orange & green with little tabs that lift off, to remove the connectors.

To remove the wheel you will need a large allan, preferablly one with a socket end so you can torque it down correctly. Be sure you have the wheel in a perfect straight position so when you put the new one on its centered correctly. I then removed the shifter buttons on the back of the stock wheel, along with the silver bracked you see above. This is what the shifter wires plug into, as well as the buttons on the airbag for the stereo and computer.

sorry its blurry, but you can see how thick the Renntech wheel is.

And here is the before and after..

I bought it from: www.performanceproducts4benz.com Or you can also call: 1800-243-1220
It is MPDesign. I have to wait almost 3 weeks from Germany. The cost is 1395USD + 26.95 shipping cost + 115 USD Dealer install = 1536.95 USD Total
Chacoal Leather with Black Birdseye Maple Wood.

My install was simple. i did not disco the battery, though.

Not sure how the others work, but here is what I did:

Use a Torx 27 to unscrew the 2 bolts in the back of the wheel. There is a trick to this part. the tool needs to be skinny to fit through the hole, but yet short enough to fit between the wheel and the dash. I took apart my folding torx set and used the #27 by itself. You can use a screwdriver or wrench to twist it once in place, but very little TQ is needed.
Once both bolts are out, the airbag / horn is loose. I removed the POWER button first (black). Then i disco'd the pastel colored wires.
Then, I took a #10 allen and a monkey wrench to loosen the center screw and take the factory wheel off.
I then took the guts from the factory wheel (shifters and frame) and installed them in the new wheel. Place the new wheel onto the steering column: the grooves line right up, so you can't goof. I used Lock forever Loctite and replaced the 10mm allen bolt. I only hand tightened, so I do not know the TQ.
Hook up the wires in reverse order (doing the black power last). Add the two torx 27 screws to the rear and done!!
Cranked it up and loved it!!

For those that like MP Designs while www.performanceproducts4benz.com does carry them and is a good supplier, Neal at Euroteck Motorsports is a sponsor AND gave us better pricing on the wood/leather combos.

Kevin M. I love that steering wheel you installed! Did you buy it from the dealership or online somewhere? I want to get the same type without the shiftbuttons for my C-Class. I think that the CLS wheel is the only one that will match because they both have the glossy Laurel wood.

Thanks! It's a Renntech wheel, same as MP Design, I believe the MP is a little cheaper $$ wise. I purchased it from a board member that had it on his CLS for a few months. Check with some board sponsors, I believe they were doing a group buy on them.

Help with center allens bolt

I have everything off except the center allen bolt that holds the steering wheel.

How difficult was it to take it off? I am turning the bolt to the left but the thing does NOT move. Any ideas???

Help is greatly appreciated. One bolt between me and my new DTM wheel!

Thanks in advanced.

One Will Need a 1/2 Inch Drive Breaker Bar to remove the center bolt.....
Ive seen SEVERAL that were VERY Tight

Have a friend hold the steering so not to damage the lock...And Go for it
remember Counter clock wise

+1 to what Mark said. HOLD the wheel and do not use the force of the wheel lock, since you do put some arm into that bolt.
