jangy i have been wanting the same thing but after hearing an E with just a sub/amp upgrade i was blown away by the sound.

i got an estimate of 1000 for complete box build to look integrated and only take up 1 foot of space from the back of the seats. Power would be a jl audio 500.1 and 10w1.

Capacitor

As long as you don't 'cheap out' on the capacitor and get a top quality one, your main battery should not be affected at all, regardless of whether you have 2 10's w/ 500W amp or 3 12's w/ 3000Ws along with mids/tweets.

Jangy, keep it simple with good quality amps, subs & speakers that you can easily swap back to stock at the end of the lease like I'm doing. No cutting at all anywhere. It all ties in nice & neatly to the COMAND.

I won't cheap out and I do want it done right. I definitely don't want any cutting, etc. However, I won't be returning it. It will become the fastest and oldest DD someday. Thanks for the pic.

I got a 12" sub in the trunk, it really made a big difference. Now I'm not embarassed to play music lol. If I put the backseats down, it really hits hard. 2 12"s would be very nice. Good luck.

In a CLS63, I installed 3 audisson amps, one each for the front seat speakers and back seat speakers and a mono amp for the new subwoofer; there is a seperate controller in the ashtray for the subwoofer. I also installed new Focal three-way speakers in each the front and the back seats and a new Focal subwoofer under the hat rack. The three amps are vertically mounted on the back wall of the trunk with clear poly face plates to protect against luggage damage.
It now sounds like a symphony hall, especially with when using Sirius satellite radio as the sound source.

Hey Jangy, if you want it done right, check out the shop I deal with. I have been working with them for about 10 years. They did the system in my car, and it is flawless. Amazing sound.

Talk to Isaac, and tell him Ara sent you.

I am not a super audiophile Jangy so I just went the easy route with the factory system, and HK speakers. I just added the JLAudio 500/1 amp and the JLAudio W Subs. I did this for both my 55 and 65 and I like the sound very much but then again I am not a true audiophile. This is a relatively cheap way to get that bass that the system needs.

Jangy,

We're actually working on a sealth box as we speak for the 55, swing by and I'll show you what we'll have available for you guys. The box will be located flush on the passanger side in the rear cubby hole. We will also be working on a flush setup for two 10" or 12" subs.

That is basically what I want, too. i was just thinking of changing out the other speakers in hopes that the sound would be a little more crisp. I'm no phile, either but I do love to jam when I roll!!

Just don't go with JL like everybody and their mother.

I'd go with Diamond Audio amps with Image Dynamics subs and speakers.

James,

I would be interested as well mostly in a single 10. Are you looking to tap into the factory harness (in the trunk) to run the amp(s)? I remember talking to Dean (Scorchie) and he said they were working on tapping into the harness in the trunk so no tearing up of the interior was needed to get power and line in into the headunit. I mostly want more bass to fill the cabin. Ripping the whole system would be optimal but get leary about a shop taking it all apart.

thanks
mike

I have 2 JL Audio 10w6v2 subs and a 500/1 amp with a Kenwood DDX7015 Headunit. I think it sounds great! Not being biased here, but I think JL Audio has one of the cleanest sounds. I am still debating on which speakers to add. I would suggest that you change out your headunit as well. The headunit makes a BIG difference in sound quality.

Here's a link to my cardomain, if you scroll down a bit you can see a few pics of my setup in the trunk. The are more pics of it on the second page. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2491637 I did everything myself with the help of a friend.

btw, all of that can be removed and put back to stock in a matter of 2 minutes. I took out the stock floor thats in the trunk, made my own, and then added the subs and everything else. If I need to carry something really heavy in the trunk, I can take the subs out and put it back to stock.

I added one JL Audio 10W7 in a specified sealed box with JLA 500 watt sub amp mounted on top. I tied it into the factory sub wires with no interface other than a signal sensing relay to turn the amp on and off. It works perfectly. Anything more is unnecessary because everything in the car reverberates. I also have enough room to use my trunk. If you want to go on trips or return it to stock configuration it's easily removed. Do a search with the terms subwoofer in the E55 forum and you'll find pictures and tips.

I had the same problem but solved it with a huge capacitor that is attached to the power cables to the amp. No more surge or battery shut off.

Here's a picture of the connection under the left parcel shelf from the trunk.

I also talked to "Scorchie" and the connectors to prevent splicing are more difficult to deal with than this approach. All that is necessary is to add these clips to the leads to the factory sub. (There a two sets of leads because it's a dual core sub that is connected to the headunit by a right and left output wire.)

did you bypass the factory sub? I was thinkin of mounting the amp in the tire well as I don't have a spare so it would look perfect on a rack under the floor with all the wires concealed and not lose any luggage space as well. For the sub install was thinking of doing a custom fiberglass set up like James is working on in the cubby on the pasenger side.

No, I just tied directly into the wires leaving them intact. Low end goes right thru the back seat and thru the air passages in the back shelf. Some of the forum members think that this causes the bass not as crisp and immediate but I can't tell any difference. This set up sounds as good or better than my fully customized aftermarket system in my Vette (and it has 3 subs in a roadster, I'm deaf too.)
