E55 = C6 Z06: What's it take?
1.) I had an '02 Z06 ( that' a C5) and had several passes in the 118mph range. Only mod was Vortex ram air intake with x-pipe.
2.) A few Friday's ago at E-town an '06 Z06 ran an 11.2 at 129mph
with only one mod..the same intake, a Breathless performance ram air. Point being the C6 Z06 is WAY faster than a C5 Z06. Every new Z06 is capable of mid 11 passes
but ask any drag racer..an automatic will always produce more consistant times than a manual.
3.) Stock vs stock not many cars can keep up with a Z06..forget in the same price range. But with mods it obviously depends on what you have. Still think it would be tough though.
P.S. One of the problems GM is having with the new 2010 Z06 (Z07, SS ..whatever) is getting the power to the pavement. It will have 650hp but traction is an issue so far.
I personally think a properly driven E55 with drag radials and bolt-on mods will give a C6 Z06 on stock tires a nice run from stoplight to stoplight, or in the 1/8th mile.
Just my $0.02
You have all given me the motivation to start modifying my 55 with the C6 Z06 as my performance target. Whether my car out accelerates a Z06 or not I am not sure, but it sure will be fun to find out.
Now I just gotta make up my mind between Renntech, Kleeman, Evosport and etc.
Thanks again guys!
Tony
Hey Josh,
Your car is amazing! Thanks for the info. BTW, you were right about how its going to cost me more in the long run to get to the same place. Oh well, you live and learn.
Take care
Tony
The street race was about 4 months ago. From a dig, he jumped out to 1/2 car and I held him all the way to about 120. I think with the sprint booster now he wouldn't get the jump. It's funny, it was a black Z06 with black wheels just like the one in the Ford GT vs. Z06 video.
Here's the link for the track race. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYsbaTP_Saw
That Z06 was cammed, headers, intake and tune. I ran a 12.16 and he ran an 11.759. He obviouslly destroyed me out of the hole (315 DR's vs 265 Contis) but didn't gain anything down the track.
Granted, I'm not stock but I think my E has done respectable against the big, bad C6 Z06.
That being said, there is no way a stock E55 is going to hang with a stock C6 Z06. The video was interesting because I didn't think the Z06 should have pulled the Ford GT that hard. I suspect that wasn't an accurate accounting of how both those cars should have run together. Just my 2 cents worth.
Was the black Z06 on the street modified? I remember seeing a clean black Z06 with black wheels at the Starbuck's roll ons that had some mods. Did your race take place on the west side of the valley?
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
I plan on goint out to the roll-ons this next year.
And for the record, with equal drivers, I don't think an E55 w/ DRs and bolt-ons will keep up with a 900hp Supra... Not possible in my opinion. I can see if there's a 100-200 hp difference but not nearly double the horsepower. Plus, anyone with 900hp will have a built suspension even if they're not running DR's. Just my $0.02

I always see the same two guys cruising their M5s with exhaust upgrades howling all over town. They must drive around at 6-7k while just cruising around because those cars scream just puttin around.
Those M5s sound hot, but it will be even HOTTER having my E55 silencing them by crushing them at a light.

Stomping a Gallardo here and there will be nice too, but I think I will leave the CGTs alone.
adam is my engine still covered if i put nos on it?????
Evoviiiyou is a neighbor. He has a Stage 5 E55 AMG, I have a C6 Z06 and the only mod I have is a drop in filter that I recently put in. We could do a few runs, get it on video for everyone to see and then post the results. What do you say, Les? (BTW, nice sig, so stay away from me when it comes to that EVO. I see revenge is a must for you..LOL)
Oh, btw, I am not a Ranger (far from it) and my Z06 trapped at 125.6 mph. I know how to drive the car, and for anyone that says a Z06 traps at 118 when driven properly is, well, on crack!! It is a mid 11 sec car at 124+ mph with a good driver.

I, for one, would love to see that vid.
I have decided to make the C6 Z06 my performance benchmark (acceleration only) for my E55. I raced my friend's 07 in my C6, and he destroyed me from a rolling start. Is this a realistic goal for my E55 with just bolt on modifications?
I am planning to install the following:
1. Pulley upgrade
2. Headers
3. Marine duty IC pump
4. ECU flash
5. 80mm TB
Will these mods make my 55 as quick as a Z06? The speed range I am interested in is 40 to 130. Or am I dreaming?
Thanks
Tony
I dont see that much difference, although I agree the Z06 is a fast car...

As far as those times you posted, that is a direct example of a grandma behind the wheel. 0-124 in 13.6 secs? hehe. Try 0-124 in 11.5 secs instead (This is my first and ONLY pass of the day on the stock rubber, BEFORE the drop in filter)
That's pretty darn fast alright.
I say, take an axe to your car (or screwdriver), remove the seats and all other crap to lighten your car up. Much cheaper then putting in all those mods
Race your friend again, and if you win, put all the stuff back in.There, job done
i would love to see that race also. should be neck and neck if you launch good, and dont miss a gear. i think the advantage goes to the E55 cuzz there is less chance for error. when you have to deal with launching correct and shifting at the right time and not goin to fast and missin second.
post up some pictures of that bad boy. do you plan any mods?
