E55 = C6 Z06: What's it take?
Hey guys,
I have decided to make the C6 Z06 my performance benchmark (acceleration only) for my E55. I raced my friend's 07 in my C6, and he destroyed me from a rolling start. Is this a realistic goal for my E55 with just bolt on modifications?
I am planning to install the following:
1. Pulley upgrade
2. Headers
3. Marine duty IC pump
4. ECU flash
5. 80mm TB
Will these mods make my 55 as quick as a Z06? The speed range I am interested in is 40 to 130. Or am I dreaming?
Thanks
Tony

E55 Upgrades To Match C6 Z06
Look at it this way, both cars have 500 hp, but his car is over ONE THOUSAND pounds lighter...
Not to mention the bigger engine...
Z06 even matches the SLR's 0-60 time of 3.8 seconds and top speed...
I would think a 100-150 hp might do the trick
, and it seems like the upgrades you are planning would give 100+ hp.
We need someone with these upgrades to chime in... Have you ever raced C6 Z06s ??????

I think that you are dreaming. You should be in the low 120mph range in the quarter mile with those mods..and Z's are in the 124-127mph range...and after 120mph it is just gets worst for the E. To win consistantly, the mods you stated plus a 75shot at the very least or maybe a 100 shot should do it...and getting the jump would not hurt either.

It is absolutely possible, but you are asking quite a bit. There have been some E55s on spray that trapped quite high, and I know VRUS has a nice assortment of mods available/in the works that should get you close.
In reality though, right now, to get the E55 to trap 125mph+ w/o nitrous is asking quite a bit. Let's not forget it takes $2000 for a Z06 to go from 505hp stock to 500hp at the wheels.

E55
From a dig,a modded E55 will have a chance.BUT if you come up against a guy with some good tires and knows how to launch the Zo6,then your going to have your hands full. They are very quick in the right hands, and now that there are mods out for them, you'll never know what he has. From a roll,I would like to think a modded e55 could hang with the stock ZO6.Not sure how it would turn out.Seems the outcome has been both ways so far.

that would put you at that league.. but it would be hard to find any stock Z06 C5 or C6.
I would save your money... buy a CL65 or SL65 (used) and start there.
or better yet a CL600 or SL600 for a lower base price.
My E55 is only fast as needed and comfortable for the family and that's good enough for me.

You add nitrous to that combo and you will pull hard on the Z, been there done that. Once he starts modding the z things take a turn for the worse in a hurry.
The thing I like the most about the 55 is the look on peoples faces when you lay the smack down. The ZO6 has fast written all over , don't get me wrong it's the best sports car right now for the money, it just has no stealth factor whatsoever.

Here's my suggestions:
a) A reprogrammed EGS / speedshift
b) 178 mm pulley
c) Cooling mod - Evosport
d) Header - evosport or supersprint (long tubes, delete of primaries)
e) High flow cats (100 cells)
f) VRP TB
g) ECU upgrade

i've yet to even see a stock c6 z06 in the 11's on an az dragstrip. yes i KNOW they're faster than that so maybe i'm going to the track on the wrong nights or az z06 drivers just really suck. regardless, i haven't seen a stock one yet that i couldn't beat with my modded e. from a roll i'm sure it would be a bit closer but i'd still take the wager if one was offered.

The best buy is a W220 S65. Renntech stage 2 will give you 700bhp and 900lb/ft. Slap on some light weight 18s, 295 rears, debadge it and you have the ultimate sleeper that will annhilate a Z06 from a roll. In fact, it will destroy almost anything this side of a Veyron.

Silly post but let me say offer this for the C6 Z06 is an automotive icon and absolute best bang for the buck ever. Z06 =
I am somewhat surprised the the proposed list of mods would not allow the E to run with the Z06 from a roll...

Thanks for all the feedback.
I know I have a lofty target considering the minimal mods I am installing. However, I think it is possible. I will also be changing the wheels to HRE C20s along with either the Evosport rotors or possibly the Rotora BBK to reduce unsprung weight and improve handling. I am also looking into other mods to improve handling which I will address in another thread.
Prior to purchasing my 05 E55, I also considered an 05 S65, but had to have agile handling, which isn't a possibile with the S-Class in my opinion. The E55 and CLS55 cars were the only 4 door Mercedes sedans I thought that had any semblance of sporty handling, so I went with the E, since it was more masculine looking in my opinion.
However, starting with a TT V12 as a base platform for modding would have been awesome from a pure acceleration standpoint, but for me, I gotta turn as well.
Basically, I want my E55 to be a daily driver that is comfortable to drive everyday and versatile to shuttle my kids, but at the same time be able to stomp on near super cars on te freeway.
Thanks again

exactly.... I lined up against a C5 Z06 this morning at a light, we both nailed it and I had 1-2 cars on him from 0-90MPH....
I couldn't see his face, but I'm sure it was a WTF expression...![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Very True. Yes, the C6 Z06 is a monster but is tough to launch. I have been to the dragstrip twice this year and have seen 3 different Z06's and none of them trapped more than 119 mph. The average driver behind a modded E would hold it's own to the average driver of a stock Z06 from a dig.
Nice summary. I actually pondered my previous post last night after thinking about some runs. If Tony got whacked from a roll where did the bleeding start? I have ran a 500 HP Viper and ran almost neck and neck until about 110 where the Vipe shines. A co-worker has a 2006 E-Gear Gallardo (M5, too) and we have ran about 20 times from various speeds. From a dead-stop it takes him until over 100 to pass me and from under 30 he does not really pull on me until 90ish. So, I have seen many vids of Vipers versus Z06's and one (on streetfire) on a Z06 and Gallardo and they are evenly matched. So, any thoughts. My is is stock except K&N's (is this even a mod?). Never ran a C6 Z06 so I have no actual experience but just looking at the other runs I have had it is odd you got whacked that bad.
I do agree from a dig is your best shot against a Z06.
I am a total empty suit on no videos (I have chances to do it daily)...
Educate me!
