That is far from the truth. I have raced cars that have trapped higher than me and beat them. From a roll, gearing and aerodynamics (especially) play a big role. A car can have 4.10 final drive ratio and get through the 1/4 mile really fast, but then after the 1/4 it can die out due to lack of gear and bad aerodynamics. So, while trap speeds do tell some of the story, it doesn't tell it completely.

I'm pretty sure you are referring to muscle cars that are built for the 1/4 mile. They die on the top end and dont even trap that high. I am speaking in general, not all of them.

If anyone wants to get together in the Dallas area for some friendly racing I would love to meet up. I have a Z06 that's mildy modified. We need to have one of those meets similar to Europe with a bunch of cars. That would be great.

juicee63 - it's hard to take a loss - it pains me too watching this video but my friend I don't think anything would have really changed the outcome. That was a healthy pull by the Z06, maybe if the E55 was rev'd right or some other excuse it would have delayed the beating but not prevented it.
The video you posted is not stock vs stock, and the yellow car is a C5 Z06, not a C6 Z06. It looks to me like that K4 CLS55 got beaten pretty handily too.
Is it really so hard for us AMG guys to realize that yes, there are 3000lb 500hp sports cars out there than can beat us? Or is it because the Vette costs less than some of you have trouble with grasping? The field is very competitive these days my friends - and there are some FLYING cars out there. The AMG cars are not going to win them all - but I will tell you all what driving the Z06 makes you appreciate just how well appointed the AMGs are. I recently drove the 55 to Indianapolis and this weekend up to Lake Geneva and it's such an incredible cruiser... the Z06 is comfy but not even in the same solar system as the AMG cars in terms of luxury, comfort, and refinement.

Great post, I guess it is really hard for me to accept especially after seeing some really fast E55's, for instance 10.95@131? What was DEREK running a juiced 55? no pun intended. Really marcus you are an intelligent guy and have owned both so I respect your opinion alot on this

Way to be good neighbor. I am a long standing member of many cars sites as I am a certified car nut. I may not have a high post count but I am on the site fairly often keeping up with what's new. If you don't want to have some friendly fun then don't but why the attitude?

+1, yes gearing
Trap speeds are good, but roll races are very dependent on gearing not to mention driver for manual cars....my point was that people see a 126 trap and say "no way that ZO6 is stockish!!!" they think it has head work and or cams or maybe think the owner is hiding a NOS kit, but really it traps 126mph due to the weight issue and the higher the speeds go tdue to the ZO6's gearing the worst it gets for the heavier/higher COE drag competitor...and thats all I was trying to say.

I had the same mods at one time and got 394 rwhp....its was a serious issue with the cooling circuit. My IATs were 280F -- near meltdown and my A/F was well under 10 or 9 -- what ever was the cutoff by 5k rpms.
If all is working correctly with the VRP TB I could be at 520rwhp. I pulled hard on a new 997TT so I would like to think I have something for the Z06 but i am not holding my breath.

And some of you guys just have to learn that a modded mercedes luxury sedan can be beat by the world's fastest non-exotic sports car. A car that is made of fiberglass and comes with a monstrous 7 liter V8 will beat a big heavy luxury 4 door with a supercharged 5.5 liter V8. Its not rocket science.
Don't be upset though, if you wanted a Z06 you could have gotten one and saved some money. Enjoy your car for what it is. A fast luxurious ballin' ride!

Its hard to say why as I don't know his exact mods and stage X to X comparisons break down with different vendors
