Yeah, that's why i put that smiley in my post. I ain't 26, but 33 ain't that old, or is it?

If i remember a poll taken here once, i think the average age around here was in the high 20's low 30's. We actually have a pretty young crowd here.

you guys have to remember the generation you're talking to. they start having kids by 16 so those of us in our mid 30's do look like we've got a 2 generation jump on them.

Hey guys/gals....back to the topic of this thread.

Why have I been hearing a lot lately how the W211 E55's aren't as great as they thought or as good as it used to be, or how there are so many problems. I keep hearing how they (W211) aren't as fast as they were and how the F in dealer detuned the ECU. What is going on??

I've got a W210 E55 right now, and have been thinking about getting the
W211 E55. But now I'm not so sure. I've been a Benz lover since I can remember...So why am I now looking into BMW and Audi.

What is happening to Mercedes? Maybe I'm exaggarating a little, but maybe not. What other benz might be as good as the E55 since it seems they aren't what they used to be??? Oh and don't telling about the newer ones...can't afford it.

every maker has it's problems. i love bmw and audi and could easily own one but if you think you'll get away from problems by going with either of them you're sorely mistaken. find a nice w211 e55, get the i/c pump replaced for free under warranty and if you end up with one of the few with the ecu problems send the ecu to powerchip and be done with it. at least the problems with mb have known solutions and are easily remedied. i'd rather deal with that than my brand new smg tranny going bad or no dealer or aftermarket support like audi. all mho of course.

Other than a couple people, i would say the majority of us are very pleased with the E55, i know i am. I don't know about E55's not being as great as they once were. Mine is still fast as hell. I have had no problems with it. Maybe some people have had issues with the I/C pump, ECU retune, etc... Every car maker has problems, go to one of the BMW sites & you will hear constantly about their problems. But trust me these cars are still as fast as the day they were born.

I've learned that in life & especially the internet, you don't believe half the crap people say & doubt the other half.

Yeah you found me out I made the whole thing up, I actually drive a civic. All I wanted was to be accepted. As far posting pics of the cars together, there are 30 cars in that garage how many more do I have get together?

To other people, my old turbo was next to the jetskis under the CLK55 cover and the pops SL600 is under the other grey cover.

I don't think ANYONE has said the E55 wasn't a spctacular car. Personally I think it's the best all around car for a daily driver money can buy. I like 63s but they lack torque, and on a DD I personallly love having what seems like unlimited torque. Even if you have a higher powered car below 60 it's hard to get the tires to hookup. My dad wanted to get a flying spur or a Maybach but short of living in miami/nyc/greenwhich/LA those types of cars are too high profile. For a young person a big car such as the S or 7 series is too big. Sports cars are awsome or the winter but what about when you are trying to have a threesome? I tried to get two girls to sit on each other laps in the porsce once, needless to say it didnt workout, guess I should have gotten a Turbo cab. I love my back seats, and trunk. I can go play golf with my buddies and not think twice. Also when you go out on a road trip like for me to chitown or something its nice to have that extra space. Personally I would reccomend the E55/63 to anyone between the ages of 18-40 as the best DD if you have the means to purchase one.

The build quality of the W211 was the return of mercedes being better than Audi and BMW. My father knows a bunch of people at AMG usa and MBUSA and complained none stop about the previous model S-class and the quality issues. When the W211 came out Mercedes cited that as their evidence of their new quality controls. Mercedes did have an issue in the late 90s and 2000ish but the W211 is a very high quality car. As someone who has always owned audis, and my father has an A8, he HATES audi as do i. Don't even get me started on their quality.

Mercedes is not a Test Drive car. What I mean by that is you can't appreciate the car by just driving it a few minutes. Owning one however is a completely different experience. There are so many little things that you don't get on the BMWs and Audis. When I got my car I was talking about it with my dad and we both kind of agreed everything about a MB is about 30% better than an Audi and 20% better than a BMW (yes thats pure opinion not objectivity). It's little things like how quickly the engine heats up the cabin when it's cold out, or the quality of the dorr threadsholds and how they stand up to wear and tear, or the speed with which the air conditioner can cool down the cabin. There are so many things you don't even notice about the car that just contribute to an over all superior driving experience.

Well thank you very much. I really don't mind getting older. I just think of it as getting more experienced. I know I certainly wouldn't act like the fool that Mr. TT has become in such a short span of time. I can't quite figure out why someone would spend so much time trying to convince someone who he will never meet that he is who he says he is and has all that he says he has. Who really cares anyway?

It's because he's a 'gangsta' so has to run around trying to prove he's 'hard' or something while everyone else just shakes thier heads and chuckles. :

Yeah and what a messed up way to bring up a threesome. Who has a threesome in a car to begin with? Get a room with a nice fat bed and a mirror on the ceiling

stick with BMW my friend...

AMG cars are made for a different breed of drivers, more on comfort, power and luxury.

with out a doubt.. the only BMW I would buy right now is a 335i coupe or 535i.

if you plan to spend $50k..go that route.

Right now I'm on the sidelines waiting for the bugs to fixed: Fuel pump, oil cooler, waiting for Procede V2 and waiting for more down pipes and IC to be developed. Keepin that engine cool will as difficult as my Kompressor engines and last, waiting to see real world results of the new M3 vs tuned 335's

And you're asking what that has to do with anything? You're right. There's nothing unusual about it at all. My apologies.

If I went to Gustav's holy grail m5board.com and said "uh, I drove an M5 and it didn't impress me"... and my name was RidinBenzos with a banner to an E55 & SL65... what exactly do you think THEIR reaction would be, eh?

Regardless, its a very simple problem. You drove one, and it apparently worked for you. You drove another later and weren't impressed. Either the second car has a problem, or you have the world's most unreliable butt dyno. Sooo... see a proctologist or drive another E55 again. hahaha

Either way, my bet is you stick with BMW.

I think I have the most beautiful one ever made...

I can see where you are coming from but you're in fact completely incorrect. I come from M3forum where my signature/"hyperlink" have been used for over a year and were copied and pasted to this forum. Altough I love my BMW's, I need to downsize to one car. I find the E55 to be a beautiful creation and had higher expectations as to how the car would perform past power and looks.

I was not coming here to start a war of any sort, but like I said before - TO SEE IF I DROVE A DEFECTIVE CAR.

Thanks to TopGun32 for actually respnding to my posts with thought and maturity.

And btw FlyByNight, nice 8 you've got there... Maybe you should reread my posts and see that I never once started a "MB Versus BMW" argument, and in fact I never ONCE even referred to my BMW's performance let alone the cars themselves!! Maybe you should tone it down a notch...

no, silly, we're all accustomed to new people (regardless of how you've blasted your banner on other sites, its new on THIS site), and new posts about the E55 not being this or that, the M5 and M6 being better, etc, etc.

So, my point was nothing more than "yeah, your name and banner have something to do with this conversation"... which you sternly thought should be irrelevant.

My point was, merely, that it is relevant... and anyone HERE reading YOUR new post with BMW flag waving banner and name is probably MORE likely to assume you'll be stirring the pot... definitely more so than the new guy called "I like cars" with NO banner. Doesn't mean its right... but it does put you at the top of the most-likely-to-be-a-Gustav-loving-Bemmer-eater.

Whether you're downsizing or not is irrelevant. Perception is what matters. Walk the streets of Iraq with a USA Rules shirt, and odds are people are probably not going to be thinking that you're some nice guy relocating because you like warm climates.

Anyway, back to your whole motivation for this thread... "TO SEE IF YOU DROVE A DEFECTIVE CAR". How on earth would someone in cyberspace be able to diganose anything based on the information you've provided better than you could? You have a bevy of cars. You've driven another E55 that WORKS. You probably can tell better than all of us. But if you have to bring up the question, then my guess is yeah, the second car is whack. Otherwise it would feel like the first car....

Without much more specific info, no one could really help you here. Although they will certainly try.

Nothing to tone down... this is all comedy. Otherwise I wouldn't have referred to ttgansta...err, I mean, your proctologist. Peace out.

Gangsta tt... why you trippin' like dat boy? You know 3's ain't nuttin no more. Its da 4s and 5s that get street cred nowadays dog. In a mini. Now dats a real playa...

Most people come here to swap information on autos. We just got a lesson in wisdom. That was one of the most logical and well conceived comments that I have read in a long time. What can I say?

RidinBimmerz:

I have a couple of thoughts I would like to share:

In the past, I have posted on this site under a few different screen names, including MercedesSucksAbig1, MyGustavRules and BMW>MERCEDES........and you know what? No one would ever take me seriously...............For some reason, when I posted under these names everyone thought I had an agenda and I took a beating.

After repeated abuse by forum members, I finally devised a plan to fool them by creating an innocuous screen name and displaying an E55 in my signature that I found on another web site. Now guys like FlyByNight and Cylinder Head don't even give me a second thought when I post something stupid.

Hope this helps.
