Just found this thread and my CLS63 does the same thing. I noticed it seems like the car is hesitating on downshift to 1st for the rolling stop hesitation.

If you put it in AMG display showing gears, there is a very long hesitation while you hit the gas and the car getting down into 1st and then kicking forward. Still pretty annoying, and have learned to use C mode when not driving like a bat out of hell. (C mode never gets to 1st so no hesitation.)

Reading this thread really makes me appreciate my 2007 E63 because it has zero hesitation and is tons of fun to drive. I drive very aggressively and also use M mode a lot and keep the revs high. I must say though, I am not the original owner, so I don't know if the car has always been running perfectly or if the previous owner had the ECU flashed or something else done. According to my SA at the dealership, the car was only brought in for regular maintenance. Build date of my car is 01/07.

Like I said though, I drive aggressively, so I am assuming the ECU/TCU has been trained very well and knows what to expect when I hit the "start" button. Some weekends I can go through half a tank of gas in a couple hours or less, but heck, it's cheaper than paying my Psychologist $100 an hour for stress therapy.

You won't get it in M mode. It has to do with the car not down shifting quickly enough when coming to a stop very briefly or even a "rolling stop". At least the issue I'm talking about. Other than that one it goes I can barely keep the tires from spinning.

Idle to 1st is fine for me. If I notice any hesitation during brief or rolling stops, I'll post it here, but I'm very picky about any of my cars and so far I have only been pleased with my E63. I just wish there was a software mod to make the engine match revs when using the downshift paddle...

yep, we'd all love to have the rev matching TCU software they put into the '10 and forward CLS 63. I think someone did have something like that but it was like a $4 or 5k ECU/TCU tune package or something.

RE: E63 hesitation

Guys, I think what Walt was describing way back was most likely the known intake gasket leak. My car had some off idle 1st gear hesitation, worst when engine was cold, until the intake gaskets were replaced last winter. It has had no hesitation since.

While I'd love to get some TCU rev matching software, I would suggest that everyone experiencing other hesitation issues also try the sneaky ECU reset; it always wakes up my car, I do it about twice a month.

Dealer replaces my intake gaskets a yr ago and I still get this hesitation now and than, worst when it cold. SA told me this BS is normal because of the 7-spd trannie.

I read a few posts on here that said the "sneaky" ECU reset did not work on the 63's. I'll try it on my '07 E63 next time I go for a drive and see if I notice anything...

I had the 1/2 second hesitation.. Bought a sprint booster to fix it.. 3 weeks later, got a CEL.. Took the SB off, went to the dealer... Was for intake gaskets... Now, w/o the sprint booster, no hesitation.. May sell the SB now...

Here's my short write-up.. If you had intake gaskets done, take it back and see if they are leaking again? Maybe they are throwing a code?

Mine's 'normal' now.. (Equivalent to the E55 I had, which had no apparent hesitation...

Good luck guy's...

Btw, sneaky ECU reset does not work on the 63's... Just the 55's...

The dipstick thing, the valve body, tranny software. We shall see who the real deal SA's are.

I know there is a new software update that makes the car more aggresive out of first. I think it accompanies the Valve body recall. Lets keep this thread going and post up our service invoices and campain #s , so we can keep track of service issues that are certainly "kinks" under warranty.

Oil consumption was due to the faulty dipstick mis-reading
Starting in 2nd gear uin D/S, early shifting, tranny softwary and the valve body?

I think the track time will improve once we get a reliable ECU/TCU MAP
and the parts that accompany it.

Thanks for the updates guys
I just bought a 2nd hand E63. Definite transmission hesitation. How do I tell if the car had the right software installed or whether any parts need replacement.

Has anyone sucessfully had this problem fixed?
