Major difference between 2003, 2004 and 2005?

Dear all,

New member from the BMW M5 forum. I'm looking to add to my "beasts" collection, and am looking into an E55, 2003~2005 (I believe that's a W211?).

I know from 03 to 04, the center console is different, I much prefer the 04 with Nav. But other than that, are there more differences I need to be looking out for?

Specifically, I would love to get all the toys: heat / cooled seat; dynamic seat; suspension / c/s transmission, parking sensors.

What other toys are new in 04 / 05 that wasn't available before?

Also, and I know this maybe an personal opinion question:
Given same mileage of an 04 and 05 (45k miles), would you expect big value delta? Or, let's say, if an 04 with lower mile is cheaper than an 05 with higher miles, would you take the 04?

Thanks all in advance.,

CWY

These questions are asked frequently. You are best served by getting the latest model you can afford. Understand that the Navi is not that great so it's no big deal. I have also heard and agree that you should get the most options you can for the price. Beware of stripped cars that are sold as "loaded". Keyless Go is a must. The Premium II package will have most of the things you need. I would still go with the '05 that has the same miles as the '04. Watch out for the warranty, get the later model to mzximize your coverage. A certified preowned (CPO) car is the best but it will cost you more (this car has a warranty extension). Get a carfax and have a reputable body shop look at the car and confirm that there has been no body work. There are many cars for sale now so be patient until you find the one you like. Post up some pics when you pull the trigger. Oh and then there are some great posts on what order to mod your car and the cost etc. Look at those for sure.

as far as amenities vs. model years, the only real difference is the missing nav in '03. jangy is the resident idiot savant when it comes to suspension so hopefully he can jump in and advise you on the upgrades that the '05 and '06 got and why they're better.

2005's allows second owner to buy the Mercedes 100K 7-yr warranty extenshion. 2003 and 2004 are not.

I have noticed that the speedo on the 05 and 06 show 200mph but the older models only show i think either 180 or 160

2003 E55
the early models (03) wont paddle shift unless in manual mode. I understand later models do.

Were there tail light changes from 2003 bulbs to 2004+ LEDs?

2003 To 2006 E55 Model Differences

Since newbies don't like to try the search feature (for some reason), I did it for you. This link has the differences between all the E55 year models.

Enjoy.....
