Oil consumption on my 2007 E63

My car has about 13,700 miles on it, I have to visit the dealership almost every 1,000 miles because of the CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL screen came up every 1,000 to 1,500 miles, and the dealer said the engine is consumping about one quart of engine oil every 1,000 to 1,500 miles, which is normal during break in period ! Now my car has more than 13,700 miles on it, even the service manager at the dealership said my car is way past the break in period, but MBUSA said it is normal about the oil consumption on my car. I bought my car brand new last year with 11 miles on it and I take very good care of it, the CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL warning screen came up the first time at about 1,800 miles, and I had visited the dealership every 1,000 to 1,500 miles for the same oil consumption problem ! The warning screen came up again 85 miles ago ( about 13,615 miles), which the dealer had topped it off at 12,799 miles. Does anyone has the same problem ? Is this really normal or did the CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL warning screen ever came up on anyone's E63 before the 10,000 miles service ?

Can´t help with your oil problem, but would like to hear what you have to say about your M5 and E63. Which pleases you most?

same problem with my S65

I have the same problem with my 06 S65. I am trying to get them to buy it back and sell me a new one. It has been a good fight for my lawyer, but that is what he is for. I will let you know the out come. Good luck

I have about 5,000 miles on my E63, and NEVER had the low oil light come on, and I've been driving the car like crazy. I took it to the track 7 times already.

Go back to the dealership and tell them to check if there are any other 63s that have been in service for that same problem. I guarantee you that they'll find at least one that doesn't have that problem, which should be enough proof that this situation is not normal.

I have a 2007 CLS 63 and get the message about every 1500 miles. Dealer also states it's normal. When message comes on it's 1 quart low. Do your tail pipies get black oil quick?. They say the harder you drive the more you use. There are lots of posts on this on the cls 63 forums. Do a search in the search bar.

I'm wondering why you rely on the warning on the instrument panel? Doesn't your car have a dipstick (mine does, and I have the Service CD which shows a dipstick on US models for 2007 E63's as well)?

As another point of reference, I have a 2008 E63 wagon, which has not used any oil since delivery, at 6000 miles now. I broke it in carefully according to the AMG recommendations, FWIW. I drive it hard occasionally during the day, mostly gently, so I can keep my license ;<).

The question here is not about using a dipstick or relying on the warning screen on the instrument panel, the thing is my E63 does consume a quart of engine oil every 1000 miles reguardless of the method on finding out ! My question for you are does your CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL warning screen ever come up and did you mean the oil level is exactly the same since delivery or at least is not consuming more than a quart ? Thanks !

In my opinion, the M5 is not comfortable for everyday driving especially in the city because of the SMG transmission, but is more fun to drive it on highways than the E63, if you plan to drive it everyday, go for the E63, but if you want a car to get more attention on the road, pick the M5 !

You likely have a faulty dipstick and it is part of a recall. Have you the recall work performed?

My car does not have this trouble, and I drive very hard. Please check the threads for E63 campaigns. amazing your SA did not note the recall as this problem hit many cars

Actually, you did not indicate that you were using the dipstick to check the oil level, but seemed to be waiting for the idiot light on the dash to tell you it was low. As posted above, relying on the idiot light without addressing this service bulletin may be problematic. I always use the dipstick and as other threads have shown, even this needs to be done carefully.

Thanks everyone here for the information ! In my opinion, if MB keep saying the oil consumption on some E63s are normal, why don't they ask the dealership to tell or warn the customer before they buy the car, tell them that the car might consume a quart of oil every 1000 to 1500 miles. The reason why they are not telling is very simple, because it will make a customer to have second thought on buying the car or at least they will do a lot of research on the car or compare with other brand, they may or may not buy the car because of the oil consumption problem ! My guess is if you ask the sales representative whether the car will have any kind of oil consumption problem before you buy the car, they will probably say they have never heard of it and don't think that will happen or at least I don't think they will say the car will comsume one quart of oil every 600 miles ( This is according to my services advisor who was told by MBUSA). But why won't the sales representative tell you or go find out about the oil consumption problem before you buy the car when they can ask MBUSA or service department, but they can tell you when you are already a owner of a E63 ! Honestly, will you have second thoughts on buying the car or will you do more research on the car or compare with other model or brand if you know this ahead ? I am not saying other E63s which does not have oil consumption problem is unusual, but it is unfair for MBUSA to tell their current E63 owner the car might consume UP TO one quart of engine oil every 600 miles when there are some E63s that is consuming a quart of oil every 1000 miles and some are consuming less than a quart of oil every 9000 miles, that is a very big gap ! If I am going on a 10,000 miles road trip with my E63, I will have to bring at least 10 quart of engine oil with me ! I hope they will keep their promise just as they said in the new C Class TV commercial : " Because we promise you a Mercedes Benz ". Unless they are only promising the new C class is a Mercedes Benz and because of the E63 is using a AMG engine !

I totally agree with you....there is something wrong. You MIGHT have an issue with the dipstick, however, that does not explain why you use that much oil. This is not normal!! I have almost 8300 miles on my car and it does not use oil at all. MBUSA is just covering their a$$ when they give you that much of a range for oil consumption. I don't know if lemon laws apply to oil consumption issues or not, but I would somehow get MBUSA attention to your problem, maybe more so than what you have done already. I feel your pain because the car itself is great, but because of the oil consumption issue, you can't enjoy it.....!! (Maybe a picture of your car with 10 quarts of oil in the trunk with a caption...Well, I am ready for my trip!!!)

Can't check oil level!

I can't check my oil level. I go through the process instrument cluster and steering wheel controls but when I reach the screen were it should say the oil level all is shown but the oil level line is blank.
