what a great day, sold the 55 and smoke a maz(rati) in the 63...

got 42k for an unloaded 03 e55 low miles and on the way home hear a shreiking in my rear quarter. so a blue 2 door maz blows by me. i catch up and get next to him, no cars around on the ffx co parkway and i hear him downshift then away we go. i let him get the jump, hold the gear select in left, downshift to 2 or 3 than... CRUSHED!!! x3 then he sulks away like a little boy. no thumbs up, wouldnt even look over. ha ha that was my first kill and oh what a feeling when a 45-50yr old gets smoked by a family car!! (btw, im 38)

Do you think your e55 (assuming your engine was in normal spec with a working intercooler pump) would of burned it x4?

Im sorry but im not convinced teh e63 is any faster until 110 or 120. It might get off the line a little faster then a e55 since its got less torque, but after 30mph i bet you the e55 is king.

I am not bashing your post! I love the e63 and e55's, nice kill!

Im just asking since you had bother cars if the e55 would of been a little more brutal?

You name it i've had it or got it...
how would a car get off the line faster because of less torque?

Sorry jdj27x but torque is 0-80 mph and after that it's hp. I say this having raced cars professionally and tuned them in Detroit for many years too. The E55 will beat the 63 to about 145mph where the 63's higher hp will win out. I've raced one stock for stock. The new E63 is heavier too. BTW: the E63 has an option of a AMG sport upgrade that supplies stiffer springs and suspension, and a new governed top speed of 186 mph, ordered from the dealer.

My Goat comes from the factory with the new vette motor but with 300+ more lbs (3650 lbs) than the vette. I have all bolt-ons plus a cam and 75 hp shot of nos=620 bhp up from the window stickers 400 and the torque is up from 400 to 670. Rear wheel hp is 530 and tq is 565. She runs 11.3 @ 126 mph in the 1/4 at 1300 ft in 70* air here in Phx, Az.

My cold air intake ( good for 15 hp at the wheels) and light weight mufflers (drops 30 lbs) and no spare drops another 35 lbs. lap top re-tune and my fairly stock E with BFG K/D street tires (Not drag radials but close in tread compound) runs 11.9@120 , half a second faster than stock and 4 mph faster too.

Wink

E55's run about 390-410 at the rear wheels, ADD the loss of 13-16% from the drivetrain and you get 462-472 bhp, just what is advertised for these cars > (469 hp).

I had an SRT-8 Jeep which is faster than all the other SRT8's from 0-110 mph and I got beat by several stock GTO's with the manual tranny, that's when I traded my Heep in for a Goat, goats eat everything. And now I beat my buddy in his 2007 Zo6 so bad that he does not know what to replace it with.

rbtronnie is correct, more torque is always faster off the line, not the other way around.

1. I see you are new here, welcome to mbworld.

2. Probably a little excessive to post 3X in a row.

3. I doubt anyone cares about your GTO, this is an MB forum, I mean its a GTO

4. Post up some pics of your rides

edit: back on topic, Nice kill story!

DCer, Nice acquisition of the e63 and take down of the Maser (GranSport I would assume). I did the same with my '05 e55 when travelling up to Long Island, NY last summer. The Maser too was a blue coupe. After he got smoked by the family mobile, he wouldn't even look over and give a thumbs up or anything.

What color is your 63? PS --- Be careful on FFX CO Pkwy, the local authorities have stepped up the law and order with various unmarked vehicles. Enjoy....

Basic information,

hp = torque * RPM / 5252

Torque is not 0-80.
Torque is a component of horsepower.

I think its more correct to say horsepower is a derivative of torque.
torque X rpm X factor = hp.

E63, SL 550 Sport,C63 Coupe On the Way!!
Maseratis are slow in my opinion I had an 2005 Gransport for 4 months and its just a status car no torque terrible handling on the dated chassis, puny Brembo brakes. Maserati needs a real engine because it can never compare to the AMG and M's as prime targets its a shame.

The Maserati has the style and exclusitivity but the engine is a 4.2.

They need a V12, stuff the 575 engine in it and then it will be a riot to drive.

I drove the Granturismo and its even slower and more of a cruiser than a sports car, chassis is much better but trans stinks and shifts SLOW.

I want the Granturismo so bad for its styling but it lacks heart (real engine). I cant justify getting another Trident until they upgrade powerplants.

So any Maserati owner willing to race any of us is just silly.

Nice Kill!

GTO guy, he is just talking about the ease of launching a 63 vs a 55 without drag radials. The torque delivery is so strong down low that it takes a more gentle hand to launch than a 63. But a practiced driver with a 55, drags, and any mods will launch like a bat outta hell and not look back. Unfortunately, most people don't drive around with drags on the street. Also, your GTO is running juice, tell your buddy with the Z06 to put a shot on that car, run drags, and he'll own your pinks.

Masers are cool, I'm not sure there is a better looking ride than the quattroporte, but it really is not a fast car. 400 or so hp. If the dude is not a speed freak and is looking for style, the Maser may fit his personality better. I have an associate who traded his 2005 CL 55 for a 4 door Maser and is happier than a pig in sh*t. Actually, the Maser moves a bit like a pig in sh*t, come to think of it. But that guy couldn't care about speed, he just wants a cool ride to drive from BOS to NY. I'm guessing since we are all on this forum, we fit into that 2% of the population that have some form of speed related mental illness. I'm guessing that there are many more people who fit into the "car for style" category over the "car for blowing the doors off of everyone else" category. 90% of the population would probably take a s550 over an e63 at the same price. Sucks to be them.

Do you beat your buddy in his Z06 at the strip or from light to light? Either way he doesn't need to sell it, he needs to learn how to drive it. Those Z06beasts should eat your goat alive anywhere anytime. With a little pratice he'll learn how to make it hook. Post a video of your Z06 kill, I'd love to see it.

AMG drive train losses are around 18% ... I wish it was only 13 to 16%.
