Car Transport Question

Does anyone know of a good reasonably priced car transport company? I need to send my car from Maryland to Cali and everywhere I've found charges an arm and a leg!

Ahmad,

I used http://www.schillispecialized.com/ when had my R500 shipped from California to Maryland. I paid 900.00 for an open trailer but they ended up doing it in a closed trailer because that's all they had in the area. Car arrived safe and sound.

Quite a few of the Factory Five kit buyers have used Stewart Transport: http://www.stewarttransport.com/index.php?go=factory5.

I don't have any personal experience with them, though.

Get a closed trailer. I moved a car from OKC to NJ on an open trailer and the front end was damaged internally, not body damage. I had to get legal help for them to pay and fix it at the MB stealership in NJ. Major hassle. Again, since you value your car, don't use an open trailer to move it!

You get what you pay for. I've used Intercity with good success.

Ahmad,

Which companies have you already asked? Have you tried InterCity Lines? If not give them a call. Not sure what the rate is. Is your car going on vacation here? LOL Btw let me know when it gets here. Wanna check it out.

I had mine shipped on an open carrier from AZ to NJ and paid $900. The only problem I had was that the car was filthy. Arizona Auto Transport in Phoenix. What kind of damage did you get Sack?

Thumbs up Use a "Closed Carrier"

I used "Horseless Carriage" and they really babied the car during the transport. We moved it from The Miami area to Arizona and it cost about $2000. Godd luck on your decision!

Now I know this is not helpful

But I would be thrilled to drive the CLK across country!!!

You pay for the gas, I will pay for lodging and any tickets.

Couldn't help myself.

Thanks for all the advice! Well I found out that you need to have at least 6" of clearance to use open transport (not going to happen with my car and its half the price of enclosed; I wouldnt use open anyway). I've contacted Intercity, Able auto transport, autolog.net, Angelstransport, 1stchoiceshipping, Ace auto movers, and even fedex. The best price so far is $1550 from 1stchoiceshipping. This was just an online quote so who knows what other fees they will tack on top of it.

JamE55- The cars been working hard and deserves a vacation lol. Its being sent out there and when it comes back its going to be missing a s/c and have turbos I'll let you know when its there.

Jon- Thanks for the offer but if it was going to be driven cross country I'd make a vacation out of it and have fun!

Ahmad, i transported my Cayenne Turbo from Pennsylvania to Chicagoland on an enclosed transport for much cheaper than any other enclosed carrier. He specializes in high-end car transport. Here's his website, give Gary Almond a call and he'll give you exact quote:

Thanks for the suggestion. He is a very nice guy and looks like he ha a great transportation business. 2 car trailer and very good service. But he's asking for the most money so far... $2400. You get what you pay for. That would be close to $5k to go and come back and thats too high for me. Thanks though.

I used VIP Transport for Chicago to Utah. Closed transport and an awesome service!!!

Ran 700$ from Chi to UT. I would imagine MD to CA would be in the 1200$ range.

Closed is the only way to go man. Good chance you'll be sorry with anything else.

No, I'm not moving. The car is going to Cali to get a custom turbo build We have MIR rented on friday if you want to come out. Who told you we should race? I'm all about having fun but I know my car isnt fast. Unfortunately the turbo BMW guys (I'm not talking the 335i) are wayyyyyy faster than us. Last time we went out, a E36 M3 ran 9's and there were two other BMWs in the 10's! Very cool guys. I will get them out for the next big track rental in the spring.

Jakpro1- thanks, I have sent them a quote request.

Ahmed, what made you drop the boost quest for a turbo setup?
I remember reading somewhere that you were looking into getting a smaller pulley to run more boost outa the kleemann.

The reason I'm asking is because I was kinda looking forward to seeing your results and comparing it to my own.

A combination of several factors. The amoutn of power you could theoretically make with a turbo setup is much greater than that which you can make with a supercharger. I also want to have something new and more unique. Ted Baldwin has raised the boost on his kleemann setup to 12PSI so you might want to check with him for info. If he had dyno numbers or 1/4 mile traps then maybe I would be convinced to stay sc but for now I really want a turbo setup.
