License plate light

Has anyone change their license plate light? Like the ones on the new Lexus LS 460, they are so white it almost gives a blue tint, pretty cool looking, i'm going to check in to that.

My plate is white and blue (sailfish), and with 2 X 9 led bulbs it makes my plate look like it is an LCD screen, it truly glows against the black car.

The largest selection of leds is found at http://spectrumled.com/festoon.htm

They have the resistors you will need to prevent "bulb out warning"

Here is a link to pics of install in a W210 almost the same procedure
You must be a member of Benzworld and log on to see pics.

I beileve our bulbs are 36MM..Not sure though. I remember awhile back when i wanted to do this, the problem was the dash light would come on saying a bulb was out... any of you guys running upgraded license plate bulbs have this problem?

I think that might be related to the fact that the LED's pull less power than the stock bulbs, which makes the ecu think the bulb is out... a resistor might solve the problem...

LED bulbs will work (with resistors) for awhile, but eventually...they'll burn out throwing off an error msg.

https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...t=license+bulb

Hoen recently came out with 5 watts halogen festoon bulbs that would fit our application. It may not be as bluish as the Lexus lights, but still much whiter than stock.

http://www.hoen-usa.com/licenseplate2.htm

JLeviSW also came out with these LED license plate lights. I'm not sure what the specs are but I'll be contacting them shortly.

Thx for the info, called JleviSW myself and they said it shouldn't throw any fault codes but they have not yet tested them out yet on the E class. BTW they have them in stock and are available for local pick up on Tues. & Thurs. only. Might head down and pick up a pair myself.

They have no idea, LEDs alone will throw a "bulb out" warning.

$24.00 is

The info is back in my first post.

The bulbs have lasted over a year, no problems. I have forgotten the size/length of the bulb, so measure one of yours before you order.

but don't comment in it, or they'll flip out on you for not driving a c class lol

Thats it 39 they will fit tight, here is a pic of the resistors I used.
2 X 100 ohm ceramic resistors hard mounted to circuit board, I tested it for 1.5 hours and the resistors never got too hot to touch. I just mounted the circuit board so that it would not touch any thing any way, I also insulated the soldered electrical connections on the board with a generous amount of epoxy.

Those look really bright. Will I need a resistor to run these?

Nice! So 1 resistor per bulb, 1 wire to positive, other to ground? Fairly easy...

Thanks!

I did the same thing. It worked for couple of weeks then the LEDs would burn out. 3 sets of LEDs later I went back to stock bulbs. Maybe I'll try the new 5w halogen festoon bulbs...

Ok, so installed the LED's. Without the resistor they would strobe, wouldnt stay on constantly. I than installed a 100 Ohm resis on each bulb. The lights work now, but im still getting the plate light out message...Any thoughts? Looks incredible at night, exactly like the lexus, a little brighter due to the 9leds in each bulb.. I also have tried the Hoen bulbs, barely a difference, not worth it...

maybe its the path you put the resister on? i read some where that you have to keep it in one direction polarity wise or something like that?

or was that for the bulbs?

can you snap some pic's of where you guys put the resistors? i think i might need to take of my lid lining for my trunk to hide it back their.
