Hyper-White & LED License Plate Lights thread

I'm in the process of replacing the stock bulbs with "super white" or "blue" bulbs to match my Capri Blue exterior.

It's damn frustrating because nobody carries the size that MB uses.

Any advice?

same problem here... I can't find the right wattage for the interior lights. If you hear anything, let me know too.

i was board one day so i was also thinking of getting different interior lights i wanted something with a tint of blue. i did not see any ones that i could buy to fit this car so i took out the bulbs in the front and the rear u know the lights that light up when u open the doors at night. well anyway i took a permanent blue marker and i colored the whole bulb blub, i waited for it to dry and put it in and it looked great. i did the same on the one in the back seat 2. if u dont want it to be that blue dont color theh whole bulb. u will see it actually comes out pretty good. i gave it a try if i did not like it once its hot u can usually wipe it off. or the worst thing i go to the dealer and buy new bulbs. i know its a kinda ghetto way of gettin blue bulds but it looks good and no one can tell the difference.

That's a really clever way of doing it. Do you have photos of what they look?

Did you do that to all 3 bulbs in the front (the map light and the two side reading lamps)?

I was thinking of doing the license plate light too.

Post the pics please

I just found where to get these colored bulbs that fit the MB. Check out canadiantire.com and euro-tails.com

By the way, did you have a problem with the fit of your clear side markers?

A while back some guy posted a message saying his fit fine after he heated up the clips on the side markers to make them extend out for a tighter fit. I wonder if you know what tool he used to heat up the plastic.

By the way, ALL members welcome to check out my new pics in the member's gallery.

Today I put in a pair of PIAA Xtreme White wedge bulbs to replace the interior reading bulbs. Man it looks wicked! I took a pic of the upgrade compared with the stock bulb. What a difference. The stock bulb produces an ugly yellow light while the PIAA's are super white with a tint of blue. Awesome!

Becareful when replacing the reading bulbs. You don't pry the lens open like the big fat map light, you need to remove the entire housing and replace the bulbs from above.

I learned the hard way, I didn't know at first and I almost pryed the plastic housing to death. Good thing I was gentle but there's some damage marks on it, but I used super fine sandpaper and water and sanded the plastic smooth so you can't tell I messed with it. I bet that housing is "expensive". It's made by Hella.

The problem is PIAA doesn't make the bulb for the map light nor the rear light, so I'd have to get those elsewhere and I'd run the risk of having unmatching colored interior lights!

What I plan to do is to check out those hardcore import car shops in my area hoping to find a matching set of wedge and dome bulbs. If not, I'll do what you did and paint them blue with a felt marker.

One more thing, I just ordered a MB sunshade for the C230. It's expensive ($US 52.00).

There are 4 lights in the interior cabin:

1 map light using a 1 5/8" 10W bulb (front)
2 reading lights using wedge 5W bulb each (front)
1 rear light using a 1 1/2" 10W bulb (rear)

The map light lens and the rear light lens are removed by sticking a coin or a flat-head drvier and "prying" the lens apart from the housing unit.

The 2 reading lights "cannot" be pryed. The bulbs are housed deep inside the entire light unit. This light unit can be removed from the ceiling of your car by pulling on the white tabs located underneath the map light lens. See the instruction manual on how to do this. It's explained in the part about manually opening the sunroof.

If you need assistance and I'll tell you over the phone or something since you're from Vancouver as well.

The were about 1-2mm shorter. I posted a similar reply in the clear corner topic.

The stock bulbs fit snugly in the bracket that holds the plate lights, but the ricer bulbs seem not to stay in as tightly. Just carefully replace it and screw it in, and the bulb will make contact with the internal connectors and it'll work.

Plate Light: What Color Looks Best?

I tried replacing the license plate lights with a pair of 10W bulbs. No problems with the fuse and the heat is not immense. I will stick with them, however now it's time to choose a color to match the car's capri blue exterior. Which color bulb you think will look best at night:

blue
purple
ocean blue/green

Feedback is much appreciated. Thanks!
