Manheim prices on 05' e55
I'm sure myself and many others looking to purchase the beast would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Thanks anyways.
Couple reasons. I have friends who buy at local auctions and I want some sort of reference point. Also, if I buy from a dealer, I'd like to know what they paid so I can negotiate accordingly.
Beautiful car by the ways.

Completely understood. I can see your reasoning, but some here take the auction prices into consideration, yet have no way to use the actuall auction.Never could understand that..lol
Thanks for the kind words on the car.Im also shopping for another E55,but a different color this time.
Whatever you do,make sure you have a lengthy CPO warranty on the car.Good luck shopping.

If someone has access to 03 and 04 I would appreciate that as well. My guess is they move down sharply after warranty expiration. Seems like many here caution against anything but CPO, I guess I have faith that say a 20K mile 2003 or 2004 would stand up OK in the long run.

Its a gamlbe. You could run the car for a long time and not get into any major repairs,or you could have 1 air strut go bad and set you back 4-5k.Motor and trans areas are fairly solid, the 03 and some 04s have had people mention tranny problems, but Ive never seen any myself.Who knows, but for a few grand more a 100k mile cpo warranty is oh so nice.

The reason we ALWAYS recommend a CPO (even those of us that mod) is exactly what Jrocket said. The CPO car will cost you all of $2000 more. The odds that you will bring up a $2000 warranty bill is HUGE. I'm not saying you'd be stupid not to get one, but I would really think about it first.
It is very true that the prices are droppping after warranty, but there is a reason for that.
As far as the trannys, I have now seen six that have failed at EXACTLY 40K miles +/- 10K miles. In all cases, the TQ converter went and all but one car was modded. I know we've always said that our trannys are bullet proof, but I am now starting to wonder. At least it isn't the tranny gears and my last mod will be a tranny triple disc and TCU.

CPO is well worth it; and in fact, I would consider it almost necessary before purchasing a used Mercedes.

The prices are obviously dependent on condition, etc. and range from high $30s for a high mile '03 to mid $60s for a CLEAN '06.
The key isn't knowing the prices, it is having access to the auctions. I would plan on going a few times and be patient. Keep in mind that the nice ones that were traded in at MB dealers are typically kept and CPO'd.
Good luck. Oh yeah, don't forget that a CPO will add about $2000 to the bottom.

If you buy a car still under Mercedes warranty, how can you go about getting it CPO'ed? I am in the process of purchasing a 04 that is still under warranty and was wondering could I have it certified at my local benz dealership?

If the car is at a dealership other than an MB dealer, you are SOL. You can buy an aftermarket warranty, but can't get it CPO'd, unless it enters the inventory of the MB dealership.

I think that you may be confusing a CPO warranty (which should be provided with an E55 bought from a MB dealer) and a factory extended warranty. The original owner can purchase an extended warranty at delivery and (Perhaps) for a few miles after that. But as an owner of an E55 that has been on the road for 2 years, you can't call MB and purchase an extended warranty. You have to go aftermarket. I am buying one from AAA (the same company that has been around for years and years) shortly.

If you have connections at a dealership, they can buy it from you and sell it back with the CPO. I don't know how easy that is anymore. It worked well for people that wanted to keep leased cars before and the BMW dealers were into it more.
Good luck.
Good luck.

I am going to purchase one through GM. I talked to the General Manager (family friend) of the local Mercedes/GMC/Buick dealership. When he looked up the prices for an extended warranty the E55 does not fall into a different category than a regular E series. The warranty is about $2600 for 8 years(total not extended) or 100,000 miles ($250 deductible). He told me to wait until the Mercedes warranty was up (6/09). I kinda want to go ahead and do it now because I don't want anything to change or not be able to get this deal because everything else I have seen has been at least $4k.

Yeah, I think I am going to go ahead and do it. Now I wish the car would hurry up and get here. I bought it from a dealership in New York two Mondays ago. Between the snowstorm and the dealership finally transferring the money to the shipping company I am about to go crazy. Maybe then I can change my screen name.

In short, if you are going to MOD, find a mod friendly dealership. Some have hookups where they don't tell and other dealerships are pretty fair with the whole thing. Then, there will be that one dealership that screws it up.

I think knowing the auction prices for any car give you a good basis for making a good deal. The auction prices are only averages. Some sell for more, some less. Auction buyers always try to buy below "book" value to maximize profit.
I have a friend that is a regular dealer at the Mannhiem auctions and I always consult with him before purchasing a car to see what average book is before making an offer. I never offer more than wholesale and if the dealer made a good deal on the trade, he'll sell it at wholesale. If they want more than that...they didn't make a good deal.
I never buy cars at the auction itself. If the cars worth buying, it won't be at the auction in the 1st. place.
