Drag Radials vs Street Tires! video

Does anyone know the drivers of these two beast?

This is a case of one car that has better traction vs a car with more HP.

Which would you rather have?

btw, if this is old and a repost please forgive me

great driving Mr. X!

Reaction time was .34 better for the right side although getting pulled and outmatched in the HP department the car held the lead long enough and got the WIN!! looked like he was out trapped by 8mph and had a .09 advantage in ET.

Wayne was your MOV .27?

In a Heads up race a slower car that trees you can ultimately beat you, give a guy like me hope

Chicago, what brand of DR are you running and how was your launch after installing the DR's (any wheel spin?) off idle or power brake? and what was your tire pressure?

I'm running BFG Drag Radials in a 275 width, but the 265s are great as well.

28 PSI, light burnout, off idle launch. Suspension raised and in COMFORT, tranny in SPORT, Traction off.

Traction Control Off So I guess with the DR's it just hooks up

I just put 315/30/18's on my CLS, do you think I can stall a little on the launch ?? or should I stick with off idle?

test for yourself and find out but (assuming the track is prepped) those of us that have already done it know that launching off idle gives the best results in the 55's. it's my opinion that our ecu's just don't understand what to do with application of brake and throttle at the same time.

the only problem with launching off idle is your reaction times will suffer. there's considerable lag between mashing the pedal and the ecu doing what it's told.

Im using SL 55(the ugly multispoke rims) they are 9.5 wide. do a search by my name and you will see my pics.

It may work on other cars.. Its 1.4 inches wider that 285's.

haters crazy
Everyone should try drag radials once, its a whole new world!

I actually got my best time when powerbraking. Use tip to put it in 1st gear and build up the revs a little when holding the brake and soon as you see the last yellow light, GO! If you wait to see green you've waited too long. soon as the car is above about 3 or 4k rpm I bump the shifter all the way over to drive and enjoy the ride There you go, you have my secrets.

Oh yea, I also put my rear suspension of full soft and front on full stiff so that the rear squats and just goes! Transfering the weight to the rear tires helps with traction. I still need to play with powerbraking to find what rpm is best. These cars make monster torque down low so powerbraking too much is out of the question. If I remember correctly, a little over 2k rpm and the car starts lurching forward no matter how hard you push the brakes

ESP off. I have KW v.2 suspension so I can adjust each corner.

4200 lbs + sticky tire = plenty of launch. Don't use more meat than you need.

Blackbenzz is right - everyone should experience the traction of slicks at least once.

with good rubber and track prep you don't need the width. my d/r's are only 255's.

What is the improvement in 60' times compared to your street rubber? And what street rubber were you running?

Thanks.

You do realize DR's have to be in the 16-20 psi range for them to be most effective?? I would love to see what your E55 would do with them at that psi and say a 2000+rpm launch..

It's not so much the improvement as the consistency and mitigation of marginal track prep.

My best on DR's is only a few hundredths from the best on street tires...as will probably be your case. (1.76 - 1.81)

It is much easier to drive the car out of the hole with DR's, but not as buttoned-down on the big end.

My streets are Toyo T1R's in OEM sizes.

With all due respect, this is my fourth set of DR's on various cars, and each responds differently.

I have run as low as 15 PSI and as high as 34 PSI in testing. I am merely sharing what has worked for me in the last hundred passes or so.

FWIW, there must be some sort of buried torque management software that limits power when both gas and brake are applied. Without removing that and possibly adding a converter, there is no point in leaving higher. (especially in a car than makes 90% of its torque just off-idle)

So I stand humbled.. I thought you were running a little less than standard tire pressure and did not bother testing out anything lower.. And 1/2 a second off your 60ft is nothing to sneeze at!! Generally speaking a .5 second drop in the 60 is worth 1 second up top in ET..
