Oh yea!!!! I gotta feeling our Animals will be the best for quite a while. Not that I need to have the best, mind you, but then again, it ain't bad either.

I am thoroughly grateful to have the W211 2006 E55 Beast. Oh, and did I mention I have the only Maroon one in the entire...........earth?

Looks like this is the new front face of the E and CLK... (Just like the old CLK had the same face as the w210) Here is the new CLK:

It may look quite different in the flesh, but this new E does not seem to have the same elegance/composure of the C and S... Not sure what it is about the C - it is subtle, but I find it quite striking... The new E style looks more confused and without presence.. my subjective opinion only...

Still we better get used to it...! I am now more concerned about the interior... those spy shots of the disguised interior circulating so far look pretty "inelegant"... (to put it mildly)

There are a number of shots of semi-disguised interiors of the w212 on the web. Take a look at this thread which captures a number of them:

Also, MB have publicly stated the w212 interior will be more "angular" and will have design elements of earlier more angular MB dashes... that fits with what we see here though there are probably extra disguising elements in these pics... I think these are near the mark though because if you look carefully at some of the web images of the disguised car testing on the road in Germany, you can see bits of what look like the angular dash through the windshield/side windows...

Another point of reference is the new GLK interior which if you look carefully seems to share elements of the "same generation" design language... Google GLK interior and... well I felt faint.... ie:

It was when the 3 and 5 series was beaten with the Chris Bangle ugly stick which drove me back to Mercedes, and from the looks of this rendition I may have nowhere left to go except maybe a (I thought I'd never say this) ....Cadillac. (god , I think I just threw up in my mouth)

Yes... I don't understand where MB is going with this E/GLK look.. is it meant to be retro inside? ..is it meant to daring and "edgy"?

Purely my subjective opinion, but I think the past 10 years or so has been a brilliant time for Mercedes styling... they have produced many classic styles that stand the test of the time without losing the consistency of their shared design DNA... (SL, C, E, CLK, CL etc) or striking and/or imposing without being ugly (CLS, new S, new CL etc) A strong sense of timeless restrained elegance is what Mercedes style at its best should be...

Unfortunately from current evidence the w212 seems to have lost that completely... (Though it would not be the first time a future classic has been hammered from the spy shots... I just can't see it here)
