Auto Insurance Recommendations
I am currently looking at esurance, AIG, statefarm, AllState? I was wondering if any one had any experience with any of the above and can recommend a good insurance company.
Thanks.
No real deals to be had at big name retail level insurance companies.
Prices start to get right when you do umbrellas, Chub is good at that.
If your retirement/Investment portfolio is right, some financial companies offer special insurance placement packages to their clients, Ameriprise/IDS offers this.
Or find a GOOD independent insurance agent and ask him/her to shop it for you.
Just be careful and don't let just the premiums dictate your decision. The true test of an insurance company is the Claims paying ability and how they handle the claim to your satisfaction.
When I have had ANY issues like hail, wind damage, a case of vandalism, etc, they paid immediately and never argued about the cost of doing the work perfectly at a top quality shop. Their rates have also been excellent making it a great al around package. The only negative to State Farm is that they will not do "agreed value" like Chubb or some of the others which has been an issue with some of my more exotic machinery but my agent has always found a way around this.
I can't say what the rates will be like going in with a ticket/accident but once you are in, they appear to be forgiving.
If you have a difficult situation, Progressive is good but you will pay.

i had an accident on 06-27-07, some unlicenced foreign exchange student in a 2000 F-150 from turkey ran a red light and hit me.
i submitted a claim and was told my policy was inactive and set to begin on 07-01-2007, they went so far as to tell me this is the date i selected!!
i explained i never would have selected that date knowing i would be driving the car immediately, i was financing it the same day. so basically they said i was on my own, they won't even assist me with a rental.
just wanted to post this to inform others of their practices

I have mercury. I had them for over 1 month and submitted a claim. So fair they haven't complaint. wonder what my insurance will be next year!!!
Their gimmick seems to be quoting you a low rate, then after the policy expires, jacking it up in the hopes that you won't switch.
They did that to me, and I got some quotes online that were much cheaper than the proposed premium from progressive. I actually like their service, so rather than switching immediately I called up and said "look, it used to be $1827 every 6/months and you guys are trying to raise it $600...I am getting quotes from geico etc, for less than the original amount, so is there anything we can do about this?".
The rep re-quoted me a new policy and managed to get the rate back down to what I was paying before. The issue, she claims, was that I got a new speeding ticket in 2007, which I thought was funny since I also had one in 2004 that was dropping off by the time the renewal took effect. They sure rushed to increase the rate for the new ticket, but somehow overlooked that the old one was hitting the 3-year mark and about to drop off. Both tickets were for 1-15mph, so scored the same on the underwriting calculation.
Anyway, point is, call in to them...they play a lot of games when it comes to the automatic renewal notices, and can lower it back down if they want to.
If you want a quote, give me a call... I've helped out a lot of people on the board already...

Also GEICO looks 5 years back (not 3 like progressive), this really sucks. I have
too many entries on my record for the past 5 years -- that is what keeps my premiums very high.
Anyway, I guess there is no way out, they know too much about me -- there is no escape.
