Videos: modified M5 vs modified SL55 *Links Fixed*

Had a fun day at our DFW ///M Club meet, which is now officially expanding into a DFW German Auto Club. We have Audi and Mercedes enthusiasts attending and bringing some great AMG and S-Line of cars for Merc and Audi respectively.

Had the opportunity to run against a modified SL55. Robert, aka bfnnrgn from MBworld.org forum, was kind enough to bring his VRP modified SL55 (550-560hp) and we got several vidoes of my modified M5 compared to his. We did both rolling starts and standing starts. Good fun and I hope you all enjoy. These were all conducted on a private road with no other vehicles on the closed road.

Robert has one fast SL55!

I'm not sure if these videos lay to rest certain preconceived ideas about either car line, or just add fuel to the fire for both sides. Regardless, I think both ///AMG and ///M have earned respect on both sides and it's appearant in these videos.

Car descriptions:

SL55 with VRP550 upgrade package -
Larger cranshaft pulley (more supercharger boost)
ecu tune
upgraded I/C pump (no faulty pump excuses here, this car is healthy!)
lower temp t-stat

M5 -

I'm terrible at launching my car, sorry guys. I need some practice. Modded it just has so much torque it's crazy. I did better with the rolling starts. Most of the time I had ESP on and it would just bog, I did one run with it off and all I managed to do was almost get sideways. The last race with ESP off, you can hear my tires screaming.

It was a lot of fun, we traded wins back and forth. He won half of them and I won half of them. We were evenly matched, whoever got the jump was staying ahead.

The M5 exhaust puts mine to shame. It has such a nice growl while the SL55 is pretty muted.

Trying to get a dyno day in and run them back to back to see what they put down.

Edit: Hmm, I guess you can't embed youtube on mbworld.

2nd race, I was ahead on the first race but it got cut short by a truck in the way and video was just too long to put up.

You're right. There are 2 runs specifically (I went back and watched the short videos of each) where you totally had me beat, but other things got in the way. The M5 gods were looking out for me

I have no evidence, but I have heard the E55 is quicker, maybe due to lower weight

Probably close IMO.

Atleast you didn't ask which is quicker E55 or E63, please don't go there...

That would depend if Enzom was behind the wheel of the E55 or not

Same engine,same HP,alot less weight for E55 so numbers say E55

I know someone in the DFW area who has an E55 K4 and we've been trying to setup a time to meet and do some comparisons. We hopefully can do this in the next 30 days.

I have great respect for all the AMG line and still love the cars. Saw a beautiful CLS63 today at lunch and it just looked stunning!
