I suggest leaving this to the stealership so no warranty issues pop up. Buy the oil if you want to save the money, but let them do the work.

My two cents.

I'm a seasoned mechanic who actually works on my own cars. I'm looking for a write up or something i can read before i dive in to it blindly.

Mercedes sucks it through the dipstick tube.

Although I have not done it, my understanding is this is like any other car. I would take out the drain plug.

I can remember at least one DIY on an AMG, but it did not taech may anything new other than a picture of the oil filter O rings.

This is a little dated, but gives you the idea. http://www.mercedesshop.com/Wikka/OilFilter2

Thanks, that helped a little if it's the same as the amg. I don't understand sucking oil out. The concept just boggles my mind & seems so wrong. I feel draining from a drain plug is the best, that way any sludge or buildup is drained. Also i would like to replace the plug with a magnetic one.

Anyone know the the thread type & pitch for the drain plug?

Also any pics of underneath the amg? Like locations of what has to be removed as well as drain plug or plugs?

WRONG WRONG WRONG the 63 is totally, totally different.

I guess you missed my post, here read this again......
Good luck on the magnetic drain plugS, yes two and the OEM plugs are unique to the 55K and one time use, that is the $53.00 parts kit for an oil change.

If you read my posts and clicked the links you would see the plugs.
You may be better off to have the dealer do it.

One of my links leads to this pic **(pic courtesy of Finny)**

and this

If you still see 1 plug take her to the dealer

I have rebuilt many engines & transmissions as well as full classic car restorations. I'm very capable of doing the work. I did click on those pics but i could only make out 1 drain plug, is the other one in the background? I have not been under my e55 amg yet to poke around so i have no idea what i'm looking @ in the pics. I'm trying to research as much as possible before i get my car in the air.

Interesting, so when changing the oil by sucking it out, they would never get the oil in the front portion. That is nuts!

Guess I will do it myself from here on, but then I always intended to.

The 63 motor is designed to have oil vacuumed out.

How was it "designed" to have the oil suck out? I see nothing unique. Is it because the 63 has one sump and the 55 has 2?

Anyway, I still do not like the suck method. Any how the heck do they suck it out from the dip stick in the back when the sump is in the front?

1 pan, but a front and a rear sump, each with it's own drain plug.

E55 then E63, now back to an E55
OK need some advice - heres the deal w an oil change on E55. Had an independent do the change a few days ago, new filter and drained every drop of oil out, but retained the same drain plugs. I am now hearing that the motor keeps a quart or so of oil in circulation that doesn't get drained. SOO.... originally my electronic oil meter (no dipstick here) said "oil level ok"..... today it says "reduce oil"

What should I do? Thanks......

My guess is a local shop might just roll over a vacuum pump and take a little out for you.

Check this out : http://catalog.eautopartscatalog.com...8ab3e89dc9b271

Febi looks like a good company: http://www.febi.com/

Also the the specs on the drain plug are m14 x 20 x 1.5 pitch. A magnetic plug is very close i can feel it.

when you are trying to take out a little, vacuum is the best. I have done the other and it is a mess.

Here are the magnetic drain plugs I use. The one with the most iron is from the rear sump. Definitely worth installing.
