Best Extended Warranty Options?
I have around 46K on my odometer and my factory warranty expired the past October. But I haven't gotten around to getting an extended warranty because my car's been hibernating in my garage for the past few months. OK fine, that's no excuse. I'm just a lazy procrastinating bast*rd but that's beside the point...
In any event, based on my research it seems that I'm ineligible for many of the warranty plans since its been more than 48 months since the "in service" or start date of the original factory warranty.
Does anyone know of a company that offers good coverage? I'm more concerned about coverage than I am about price. I mean, I'd rather pay $8000 for a plan that will actually give me coverage than to pay $800 for a plan that will give me a "phone number no longer in service" message when I try to call...
So far I've heard of Guardian, National Auto Care, Mercury and a few others. But I've been reluctant to commit to one because I don't want to wait 30 days for the warranty to take effect just to find out that I got ripped off...
If anyone has any good experience with any extended warranty companies, please advise. Thanks!

You can not buy an extended warranty from MB UNLESS you are the first owner (i.e. you bought the car new from the MB dealer) or you are buying a CPO used car from an MB dealer. In those two cases, you can have your warranty extended (assuming in the fist scenario that you are still under the original warranty).
Otherwise, even if your MB warranty is in effect, MB will not sell you an extended warranty. I don't like this policy, it seems very unfriendly to the buyer, another way to 'muscle' you into their dealer network to buy your used car. I'd rather they play a positive game and lure you into their dealerships with great pricing and service instead of refusing to sell you an extended warranty on a car that is ALREADY under factory warranty. But I digress (rant?)...
Otherwise, I'm told that Mercury is a good option. No personal knowledge (or gain), just reiterating what I've read on this board over the years. I got a quote for me '05 recently and I think it was like $3.5k, maybe a bit more, for a 100k (I think it was 7 years) coverage of pretty much everything, as I recall it looked identical to the MB warranty. I think you need to have 2 or 3k of factory warranty left for them to sell it to you, though, so don't play it too close.
