BMW nut looking to move to an E55
Thumbs up sold BMW... on the hunt for a W211 E55!

i sold my BMW to a brother BMWCCA club member in California... it was my 4th BMW - they are truly a 'driver's car'.

i had the opportunity to drive my friend's K2 E55 and instantly decided that i must have one of these torque monsters! i put my BMW on the market (sold now) and have started to line things up so that i can purchase an E55 in the spring.

i have an idea of what i may be looking for as to colors, options, mods, and mileage, etc. from time-to-time you may receive a PM inquiring if you may be interested in parting with your AMG Beast in the future. you all have some very nice cars and this is a great forum... you all are true automobile enthusiasts.

thank you for sharing your E55 AMG knowledge and experiences.

BMW shipped from Maryland to California:

E39 M5 was one of the greats.

Large-displacement n/a V8, straight-up manual tranny, no frills. Wonderful car.

it was a 2003 540i 6-speed M-Tech model... one of just 1,265 produced (sequential chassis numbers) and only offered in 2003. For perspective, BMW production (sales numbers) for the 2003 E39 M5 was 1,710.

**thanks tthoang1**

I still love the E39 aesthetics...a very simple and pure design language.

You're making a great decision. I had an 03 540iT (wagon) with the VF Engineering supercharger kit. 415HP in the wagon was great fun and it drove incredibly well.

It still wasn't in the same league as my E55 wagon. Not even close

I miss the 540. Truly a beautiful car -- to me, more beautiful than the E55.

But not as much fun.

Well, uh, yeah. I love my E55 and it is great fun, but not as much fun as my C6 convertible, or my boats.

Still fun though

that's great to hear... i was considering a VFE or ESS blower for my 540 but in the end - the W211 E55 clearly is superior in almost every way. i'm glad you're happy with the blown E55 wagon... were you on the bimmerforum board?

IMO, nothing beats flying past exotic sports cars on the highway in a 4 door family sedan.

I was on all the boards as at the time I owned the 540iT, I also owned an 03 M3 Convertible.

I really regret selling the M3 and am considering picking up another one. I sold it for a 335i convertible and just flat hated the 335.

I have a E46 M3, 4.4 X5 w/sport package, and had a E39 M5...be prepared to lose that tight steering feel that all bimmers have and gain some serious torque.

Personally I have never had a problem with the E55 handling, I know that the M5 handles better, but I've never needed more. Torque? Never enough.

I don't have a problem either with E55 handling, but bimmers feel very different when it comes to steering and braking "feel."

+1 on BMW steering feel.

Had a quick run out to pick up dinner takeout the other day and took my parents' 750Li as they were blocking me in...and instantly, the steering and the brake pedal on the BMW felt more 'connected' to what's happening at the 4 contact patches than what I get from the E63; and this is a car WITHOUT the Sports Pack option.

Still hate that interior though...
