Improve you gas mileage by 20% plus

I know, it sounds like a spam commercial.

Just wanted to share some info.

Being in the business of making more power and thus using more fuel, this is exactly opposite of what I do, but with 91 gas getting up into $5 a gallon territory, I had 20 calls/emails/PMs asking me for how to save on gas.

I can tell you how to gain 20% plus in MPG, BUT at expense of 250HP.

If you are ready for sacrifice and do not mind driving a Corolla....................

It is really very simple - unplug your kompressor.

I know it sounds like her heresy, but you will get about 3-4 mpg at the expense of boost.

Ideally, one could make a switch to turn the kompressor off during cruise and turn on when it is needed.

You will get a a very slow car and a 'Check Engine Light", so beware.

Thats an idea!

Or get a proper tune and get more power and MPG at the same time. (Not for the heavy footed).

Or you could get a lightweight stock diameter crank pulley and get the same 3mpg+ without sacrificing any boost at all . Sounds much better than losing 50% HP haha.

Royal Purple will help a bit too but not nearly as much as CP.

No.

Kompressor take anywhere from 25 to 70HP to spin, plus fuel enrichment from the boost are responsible for MPG gain.

Royal Purple is no better than Mobil 1.

I wish these damn cars had a boost gauge. Doesn't the kompressor only kick in under certain loads and not under "regular" driving?

so if i unplug it and drive.. check engine light comes out.. would the computer of the car go nuts and break down on me? or wouldnt it still dump the same amount of fuel even if the supercharger is unplugged?

Boost can be seen through diagnostic port. Kompressor is pretty much on 99% of regular driving.

No, you get a CEL which will read MAP sensor malfunction.

Fuel is added through map values that corresopnd to boost level, if there is no boost - there is no extra fuel.

I think someone should make a valet switch so you can turn off the blower when you valet it or when the wife takes it!

Would removing the Sprint Booster help much? This business about WOT just pisses away fuel. $2.80 a litre inthe UK.

What if you just take off your s/c belt? No CEL? But that would be a pita.

I'd love to have that valet switch...

The only concern about a switch - what happens if it the kompressor gets turned on at 80 mph?

At that speed a 40HP load from kompressor either will throw the belt off or fry the clutch.

Will DME not allow this to happen?

Until I try it I will not know.

CEL will happen due to missing boost vs. throttle pedal postion vs. load.

I will keep digging.

I have done this to my C32 to trouble shoot a bad IC pump...

from a stop.. it not that bad.. but making a pass is takes for ever.

On my E, I have thought about this... but not tried it.

BTW: on my C32 no CEL's.

dont you have jangy's car you can try it on??

Never thought about the switch being used at driving speed. How about a switch that can only be switched when the car is off?

Would love to have this switch for valet and the day I have to let a girl drive it.

How do you manually turn off the supercharger?

Nope, the baby is home. If you guys want to turn off the SC, why not just take off the belt?

no, I want to have a switch, and I think Vadim should test your car to see what happens when its turned on while the car is traveling 60mph +.
