SERVICE RESET
I changed my own oil on my 2006 E55 this weekend because I was a couple of hundred past the recomended service. Now, I would like to reset the indicator and can't.
My owners manual indicates only a dealer or authorized service facility can do this and there are no instructions in the manual to perform this. I've tried every method I could find on the various forums and none work on my 2006.
Any advice? I would really like NOT to go to the dealer for this.

Cost of tool is around $250-300.

Re-setting Service Indicator

If you change your own oil and do other maintenance items, the "Service_ Exceeded by....." comes on each time you turn the ignition on. If you look it up in your maintenance book, it tells you that you can get rid of it, only temporarily until the next engine start, by using the reset button. When you read further, it tells you to take it to a MB or other service center to reset.
Here's the procedure from the WIS from my 211.026:
1. Switch on ignition. Use the scroll page to get to the temp, mph page.
2. Press the scroll forward and backward button( down arrow) repeatedly until the service date is displayed.( or if it says," Service exceeded.."
3. Keep the trip odometer reset button pressed for approx 5 seconds until the Service Menu appears in the display.
4. Using the + and - buttons, select Confirmation of Service
5. Press the system selection button ( lower of page buttons at 6 O'clock position) to confirm.
6. Press again to confirm.
7. Service Confirmed appears in Multifunction Display
8. Press the same button to get to the standard display
9. Turn ignition off. The next time you turn it on, the reminder should not appear.

I will give this a try and report back.

here is what i did:
-Key in ON position (one click after accessories but not all the way which starts the engine)
-from the temp display screen go up or down to get to the "service exceeded by..." or whatever message you have regarding service
-hold down the reset button for 5 seconds
-you get a screen with service options.
-go to the last option which is "service confirmation" and hit yes and then it says "service confirmed"
Thats basicaly it! took 5 minutes. No it says next service in 10K miles if I check and dont get the service exceeded light either.

one thing i noticed, if you hold down the reset button when it says service exceeded and it doesnt bring up the service menu, you are probably in Accessories key position or have the engine fully started. You need to be in the ON position which is inbetween the two.
cheers

I tried this in every key position, door open, door closed, pointed West, on a Friday while on my knees praying it would work. The AMG God's are not listening.
I'm just speculating here, but I have a feeling they changed the method for 2006 and it may not be possible to do this without some special tool?
Still hoping so any feedback is welcome.

Still think there's a way. Just haven't found it yet.

Don't worry, I got your back. I just sent you a PM, I have the instruction in PDF version that your looking for. I've given these instructions to many other members in this forum as well as the AMG Private Lounge forum. Anybody else looking for this, just PM me with your email address.
