Which oil in my e63?

Hi guys,
Can anyone tell me which is the official oil I should be putting in my e63?

I know that it is mobil 1, but there are several types available here in the uk.
I called the dealer but they didn't seem to know which formula was needed.

I'm only topping up but want to know if it's the 0w-30 that I should be using or the 15w-40.
I have used both and can't really tell any difference when driving. The 15w-40 does give better protection from cold, but is it too thick when warm?

Anyone who can tell me what it should be will have my eternal gratitude!

P.s,
I'm not really interested in other brands, I just want to get the correct mobil 1.

You should have been given an "Approved Factory Service Products" booklet with your car. If you do not have one, you should tell your dealer they should supply one to you since they clearly can not read it themselves. If they could read it, it would have been exceedingly clear that ever since MY2005, the ONLY oil approved for AMG has been Mobil1 0W-40 European Car Formula.

Hope that helps. If you want more information there are about 5 threads with expanded discussions.

OK. But we are talking about the 63 engine. Approved oils for non-AMG cars is also in the booklet I mention above.

Whether or not the approved oils are any better or worse is not the question asked.

Thanks for the replys, I've had several amg's including a cls 63, a cl 63 and four e 63's. Long story why I've had so many, so I won't bore you with it.

Every one I've had has never come with the approved extra's book you mention, so I guess that must be a thing you guys get across the pond from us europeans.

That's all the info I need, and thats just typical that you guys know more than the actual dealers

Thanks for the help, I know what to buy in the future now

Here is a link to the Sept 2006 booklet. There is an error in it implying that 5W-40 is also approved. The new booklets are corrected. Get your dealer to give you one. Given the number of 63s you have had he probably has a chair with your name on it (or he never wants to see you again).

Thanks for that link, it tells me all I need to know, and as a bonus a few approved alternative oils should the price of the mobil 1 ever get to be way more expensive than the competition.

Mobil 1 0W-40 has been working great for me so far, but I'm always on the quest for better quality. I've heard a lot about Red Line, Amsoil, and Royal Purple, but it seems like there's not real scientific data showing benefits.
