Mine does... If it sits more than a week or even two, it will sit lopsided.

I'm currently lowered via Star and it definitely drops more after sitting overnight. It raises back up as soon as I start it up.

my car drops overnight as well.
It's normal.
Upon opening a door or even unlocking your car, the car will rise back to its original setting

I drive my E500 (airmatic) only once/twice a week. For the first time, I noticed her rising after start up last week. IIRC, I think I left her in SPORT 2 mode after shut down for the very first time.

Somebody above posted if left in SPORT 2, the car will drop a little after shut down. Based on my observation and the posts above, either I have a failing suspension, , or the car does dip in SPORT 2 after shut down. (Could be after a few days/hours).

I think I'll leave her in normal mode, and see if the same thing happens. If she does not rise in normal mode after shut down, then the poster who brought up the SPORT 2 mode is right on the money! I hope he is!! I'd hate to have this problem with only 33K!

Ok, well here are my observations and some facts from the manual:

FACTS:

You can set your car in 4 different settings, each setting changing the stiffness and height of the suspension.

Raise - Greatest height setting
Comfort - "Regular" height setting with the least amount of stiffness.
Sport 1 - Lowers 10mm and stiffer than comfort.
Sport 2 - Lowers additional 10mm compared to Sport 1 and is stiffer than Sport 1.

Depending on the road quality and the speed of the car, only the height (not the stiffness) will be automatically adjusted regardless of the setting you are in.

OBSERVATIONS:

When I turn the car off after driving, and park in a level spot, the car immediately drops to one setting lower. For instance, if it is in the Raise setting, it drops it into Comfort....and so forth. However, if left in Sport 2, it actually drops one level lower than Sport 2. Strange, I know, but this is my observation. I am stock and it looks slammed!

Sometimes after I park, turn off the car and leave, it doesn't drop. However, if I simply open the door (even after a few hours), it makes some noises and drops to one setting lower than parked in. It does not go up unless I actually start the car.

Lastly, as stated above, if the car is not parked on a level or even surface, it maintains yours or its setting and will not drop.

The manual does not go into too much detail though. I wish there was a place that we could find out more about the temperament of our suspension.

Anyone else have observations and when and how it drops?

Alright guys so I went my mechanic today that has star and we got the car to lower, however when we started the car up it went back to its normal setting. Its not staying for some reason. Anyone know why? Is there a way to save it?

I don't know the procedure, but I understand that if you don't do it exactly right, as soon as you turn the car off it'll reset itself to the stock settings. It has to be exactly in order for it to keep.
Would love to know the procedure! Anyone????

I've got a lead on a place in Arizona, a friend of mine had his 2004 SL55 lowered, says it was the best $200 he ever spent! via STAR by Mike Davis
Manager

3503 N. 7th Street,
Phoenix, AZ 85014

Phn: (602) 274-5100

www.europeanautosalon.com

Get this only $200.00 but you have to go to them to have it done, Mike says w/19/20" whls there will be about a fingers width gap all-around after lowering
also takes him 3 hours total to get it perfect...Now I'm just trying to get an excuse to make the drive out there

If it isn't done exactly right, it'll lower, but then rise again next time you start the car. If you do it exactly right, it'll stay low. I understand it takes a lot of fiddling and a number of steps repeat. Miss a repeat and it lowers, but doesn't stay that way.

your car is beautiful... the drop is perfect. Can you tell us anything about getting STAR to save the settings once we have lowered it? I went with Hamann69 to get his car done and the tech was able to lower it to the desired height, but could not save the settings and, upon startup, the car "lost" the settings and raised to original height. Any help on this would be appreciated.

I know Benzo and I dont think he has any procedures as I believe he had it done and it just stay that way. I do know he recently has ordered an ELM that I am going to help him install in the near future.

wow and another blast from the past! We are also searching for a place to lower it in DC area, but so far no luck. I went twice to the places with STAR diagnostic but my car comes back 2-3 weeks later. If anyone can post step-by-step would be awesome

Go to tech section! There is a mechanic from MB Cleveland that is an approved AMG mechanic that is always on answering questions and has done this tons of times. It think he is under amgtech1 or something. Post in there he will respond.

Can any MB dealership lower the car via STAR? or is it just certain dealership that do it...
Im here in Charlotte, NC and we only have 1 MB dealer... I really want to lower the car but I don't want to pay crazy $$ for an ELM... I wish we had normal coilovers instead of airbags.

A few more questions on SDS Lowering

1. After lowering, will the vehicle still rise up to the same height when the max ground clearance mode is selected (I have a rather extreme angle of entry to the garage and at present the clearance is only about .5")?

2. Does SDS lowering affect ride heights in all modes equally? For example: if the vehicle is SDS lowered .75" in "comfort mode," will the vehicle, in Sport 3 lower to the original preset ride height plus an additional .75"?

Any thoughts would be helpful.

Are you guys following the STAR sticky posted here? I got my own star and set my car height just following it. Everything worked fine and still in my set position. My car rides and handles great. (I already sold my star)
